This has probably been asked before but my search string didn't turn up anything...

I have a AR stripped lower that's not been built yet. My want is to build a 9mm pistol from it. I was told by a local store that it's not possible. Not because of any legal issues it just not possible due to incompatibility with the required ejector, mag, BCG, etc.

Do I have options or is this lower just destined to for 5.56?? There may be legal issues also but I didn't see any since it's never been built.

Gun stores are so often the worst place for advice on anything firearm related.
Look up 9mm adapter blocks. The first PCCs, the Colt 9mm SMGs used adapters.
Pro-mag has a cheap one I've got 5-600 flawless rounds thru, it's gonna fail someday, it has to.
You will need a 9mm upper, bolt (it's not a BCG in 9mm), and maybe a different buffer set-up.

There's also a mag that acts as an adapter block now.
If you want Glock mag compatible you pretty much have to have a designated lower.

My initial research said, yes it's possible. After looking a barrels the LGS had me questioning...

The lower first then I will look at the upper, hammer, BCG, buffer and all that goes into those.

^^^what he Beef15 said.

I have a top load Hahn that works extremely well. Here is a video that does a pretty good job explaining all about the Hahn adapters.

Member here used to have one with the adapter permantly attached inside the magazine well with roll pins. Not gonna call his name but it can be done either temporary or more permanent

I have one now with the PSA Colt pattern mag block insert on a normal AR lower. I used to have the Hahn insert in another lower. Both ran flawlessly with good magazines.

As to the 'can you do it' legal issue....since it's never been assembled, you can built that lower as a pistol or a rifle, caliber is not even considered in that discussion.

The lower I have is marked "Multi-Cal" and was on the 4473 as that. I always like to double check with the collective...

I've built a 9mm rifle on a standard AR-15 lower before. I used the glock tork mag block since glock mags are a dime a dozen. All you really need to build a 9mm is the BCG, Mag block, and barrel. All the other parts can remain standard ar-15 parts. No gas system necessary as its a blowback design. Here is my rifle 9mm I built a while back. If its a stripped lower you should be able to build a pistol perfectly fine and it be legal.

Dang, thanks! That never occurred to me. It looked to me as if a 9mm upper was needed, but it's just the BCG, barrel and the buffer/tube/springythingamabob. ;)
