I just realized that we don’t have a pewter thread.

Found these while vacationing, overpaid at $15 but it’s not like I can come back and get them next week when they get marked down.

So what's it for? Not really a precious metal and I know you're not serving iced tea out of that.

Pewter is mostly tin with some lead, copper, etc. It is added to lead when casting to make the molds fill out better. Can buy tin, but it’s $15+ per lb.

Lots of stuff that people call pewter is actually cast aluminum, so the hunt for the real stuff can be entertaining from time to time.

I rarely pay more than a dollar per lb for it. Never buy the candle holders. 80% of the weight is not pewter. They have weighted bases. I have maybe 25lbs of pewter ingots, all in 2oz ingots, and another 8lbs or so to be smelted when I get up to 15lbs agian. Cleaned everything out in my area for a 20 mile radius a while back. Lol So I have to let the supply build back up.

Yeah I only bought this candle holder because it has a solid base. A dollar a pound is crazy good.

I’m actually going to Denver CO for a few days, gonna see what I can find between hiking and drinking and of course some real business.

Been hard to scrounge during the pandemic, but I was able to find 99lbs today, I think this will hold me for a while.

So you're the reason I can't find any...............................

I am waiting on cooler weather to melt a bunch of my pewter. Found quite a bit this year even with the covid scare. The wife has to approve the meltdown first. She
gets the pick of the "pretty" stuff.

Wife approval? Oh hell no, lol. What I buy in going in the pot. I smash whatever I find with my boot to get more in the 5 gal bucket I store it in before she ever even sees it.

She ends up finding and buying more than I do.Most all of it goes in the pot.She keeps just a few of the trinket things. And I've been known to keep a glass bottom mug with an unusual handle.
Its kinda a game to see who can find the heaviest item to melt.
