Picked up a Keltec sub2k (with two different mount test results)

Not to fix the sight mounting thing but if you are okay with it and going to keep it check out www.mcarbo.com for truck parts that might help those shortcomings you just can't stand. The spring kit is the only thing I've done and it help feel but the little gun is what it is a compact nice little pistol carbine not a tack driver but does what I wanted it for.

I do want the single point sling mount, and probably the 'pool noodle' that goes over the tube, but I'm leaving the guts stock.

Signed up to the do the steel challenge this Saturday since they're letting PCCs play. No incremental cost for using the sub2k over my G34, don't even have to run a different mag pouch.

Myself & @Elenaidan will be there also.
I'm shooting PCC as well.
The cool guys are on squad 4.

That explains why I'm on squad 5. (it was the only choice when I signed up, too many cool kids already).

How do you carry these things around the match? Do you have to keep them in a case or is bolt open and slung ok?

I case mine, unless I bring my cart or bum cart space off someone else.

Eta, there is room on 4....just don't be watering down the coolness with your West coast goat smell.

Those slip-on recoil pads for these things get some bad reviews for falling off and people are taping / zip tie-ing the things on there. So, if we're going to be ghetto, let's just start that way.

Presenting, my "$0 let's hope it stays on for the match" recoil pad. Made of hard drive shipping foam and gaffers tape:

The sub2k ran flawlessly at the steel challenge today. I think today marks the most "aimed fire" I've done out of a carbine ever. Mostly I've fired it off a bench rest when we're sighting things in or just some spray and pray mag dumps for "functional testing". It was good to actually get a feel for how it works against steel.

Someone didn't bring a bag to the match so I let him bum a ride in my case while on course. Crazy ass German gun with it's can and happy switch, making the Keltec doubt it's coolness. The Keltec ended up on the ground twice (once falling off the barrel and once getting pushed off the open bag while people fondled the MP5). Sigh.

You don't remove it. At least with the 1st gen, you either mounted an optic and gave up the ability to fully fold the rifle, or you got a rotating forend, so you could rotate the optic out of the way. I assume for the 2nd gen there is a similar aftermarket rotating forend or maybe Keltec's stock forend has this feature?
I saw where one guy mounted a red dot on a spring loaded hinge, so it would fold out of the way. Ihave no idea whether it retained center.

My guess is that the hand guard has too much flex in it. And, with the red dot mounted so high, a little flex at the hand guard will amount to lot of movement at the optic. I'm not so sure that the hand guard that indexes will return back to zero every time, either.

To your point Geezer, I have read of the same issue with this mount in the link below. When tightened onto the plastic hand guard it just does not hold zero consistently. If the hand guard were aluminum it likely would work as it would be more secure. I have opted not to use this mount on my Subs for the reason you stated.

It's fun because it's a pistol caliber carbine. I've had 2 or 3 Sub 2000s, can't remember now. All were 1st Gen.

YMMV, but after trying add on rails and optics, I came to the conclusion that the Sub2K is best left exactly how it came, a super concealable, super lightweight, super simple, super quick to deploy carbine perfect as a car/truck or get home gun.

It's accurate, but not more accurate than you can be with the sights it comes with IMO. The best way I found to run a red dot was to get one on a QD mount and keep it on the bottom rail when folded, then move it to the top for use when unfolded. It holds zero well enough. This way it doesn't impede quick deployment just using the irons if necessary.

Hopefully the Gen 2 is better, but I found the Sub2K hard to get my face down on wearing muffs, the sights were not high enough for the straight back stock. For a range toy PCC I prefer a full size JR Carbine, TNW ASR, Beretta CX-4, etc.
