Has anyone heard if PHA in Linwood is adding a 500+ yard range? I'm pretty sure the ballot to buy that additional 17 acres came back as approved. I'm a member at PHA, but I don't know who I'd ask about this, and any of the RSOs I've asked have no idea.

Was on the BoD for a few years
Yes, it's in the works. Been so for a while. Land had been purchased years ago, plans in the works etc

I was wondering about this recently, hopped on the PHA forum and apparently I wasn’t the only one. Someone posted asking about status and it basically came back that 1)there are other priorities and 2)they don’t have enough volunteers to get started.

I’ve only ever heard them ask for volunteers for the LR project once, and I immediately offered to help where possible. That was years ago. I got the sense that they were judging volunteer availability based on road side trash pickup and trimming trees on the existing ranges. If you tell people to get off their butts if they want the only 500yd range within 100mi, I bet you’d get some volunteers!

To be clear, I’m not bashing PHA, I love the place and the way it’s run 90% of the time. However, I hope they step it up on the messaging when the time comes for the LR range.

i love the place too but with all the money theyre spending - they need to add some pistol bays.
last 3 times ive been were on weekends and almost unable to grab one.

I had heard the number 600 tossed around at one point.

My information is dated though, not on board in two years now

Yeah I hopped on the PHA forum and saw what was being said. I’d bring my tractor, brush hog, chainsaw, etc to help out on a long rifle range.

Not my words but what I’ve heard said by people at the range is that some people in charge of those decisions are older “boomer” types that don’t see a need for that type of thing…

I’ve considered leaving PHA and joining Coleman’s creek since I’m originally from around where it’s located. But I’d love for PHA to get a 600-1200 yard range. It’s really all that’s missing.

Again, was on the Board for several years. Yes, some are older, but not all. Hell, I was in my 30s. Some others were under 50, too.
I dont know that I'd say leadership is 'boomer' status, at all.

I don’t really know anyone on the board… again that was just parroting something I heard on the rifle range there and on the PHA members forum.

That was the plan a few years back....... 4 years ago or so..... They purchased the land to do so and I guess other projects took priority over the 500 yard range project. Since then they have put some money into that place and are still spending on other projects. Membership has increased a lot since I've been there. There were only 5 pistol bays in the bottom area, then they made them a little smaller so there are 8 now. There are also the 5 tactical bays up top for handguns. I gave up going on the weekends a while back for the same reason, it's too crowded when the weather is decent. During the week or this Saturday afternoon when its 95 degrees outside, you will have most of the place to yourself!

Colemans Creek is a nice facility with only 2 drawbacks, at least for me.
1- Less operating hours when compared to PHA. Colemans Creek is closed on Mondays, only 12-5 on Sundays and they close at 5 the rest of the business days. Occasionally they are closed for an event here and there but it's marked on their calendar so you don't waste a trip driving there. Sometimes it's a whole weekend or a few days.
2 - Anything past 100 yards is steel only, you only know if it's a hit or miss unless the targets were recently painted.
