..as one lady called it at Southern States.

Southern States in Pittsboro has been selling trail mix marked "Not Safe for Human Consumption" for a while now, we are on our third bag. We mix it into our pig feed at a 1:5 ratio just to make their lives a bit more interesting, lol. Each bag is a little different but it really is various combinations of trail mix including all kinds of nuts, dried fruit, M&Ms, and other stuff like pretzels.

I'm not sure why it's marked as unsafe but I get the idea that it is just spillage. I've eaten some of the nuts on occasion and they seem perfectly fine, although sometimes a little stale. It's super cheap at < $20 a 50lb bag. I was just thinking it would be a good source of emergency protein in a SHTF situation. Certainly cheap enough to buy a large amount and seal up in smaller containers with some oxygen absorbers, etc. Just throwing it out there!

If I'm starving I'll take the risk. Someone just pointed out though that the nuts will likely go rancid, so probably not a great idea anyway. Unless you have pigs.

I was just being cute.

Now, will these feed out of a deer feeder?

I think it would work in cooler weather. It looks like I see M&Ms in there. In warmer weather I'm scared they'd melt and clump up and jam up the spinner when they made it to the bottom.

My bad. I assumed you would have eaten the M&Ms on that long ride to the property.

Feed the animals. Eat the animals. problem solved.

Just noticed it doesn't say "Not Safe for Human Consumption", it says "Not for Human Consumption". Hell that could mean anything.
