Southern States in Pittsboro has been selling trail mix marked "Not Safe for Human Consumption" for a while now, we are on our third bag. We mix it into our pig feed at a 1:5 ratio just to make their lives a bit more interesting, lol. Each bag is a little different but it really is various combinations of trail mix including all kinds of nuts, dried fruit, M&Ms, and other stuff like pretzels.
I'm not sure why it's marked as unsafe but I get the idea that it is just spillage. I've eaten some of the nuts on occasion and they seem perfectly fine, although sometimes a little stale. It's super cheap at < $20 a 50lb bag. I was just thinking it would be a good source of emergency protein in a SHTF situation. Certainly cheap enough to buy a large amount and seal up in smaller containers with some oxygen absorbers, etc. Just throwing it out there!
