Looking for recommendations for a gunsmith in the Raleigh/Durham area that can help finish off a 14.5" AR build. Kapp is the gunsmith at The range I usually shoot at, but have heard enough horror stories about him to not even approach his services. Suggestions?

Digging up an old thread, sorry.

Sent Joel a note through his website to try and see if I could get up with him to have this done. He responded with an "I don't weld, sorry."

So, anyone else got a recommendation?

Silver solder maybe? I can't remember if it's legal to use or not

Yes it is, think it has to be 1100 degree, you'll find it in gunsmith and jewler supply catalogs. Get a paste, use half a tub of heat stop Oxy/acetylene is best heat but oxy/propane, or MAPP can do the job. Faster heat is less heat affected zone. It will discolor. My brake is kinda gunmetal blue now, think it was nitrided black before. When cool try turning with barrel in vise, will feel rock solid or slip easy.
