Pinned and welded a bad idea?

Looked at a used Sons Of Liberty Gunworks AR yesterday for what seems to be a good price $1200 (gun looks new) at a local pawn shop/gun store . Supposedly 14.5 barrel with the NOX muzzle device from SOLGW pinned and welded on to get it to 16 inches. Any drawbacks/issue to consider other than the process to remove to replace it with something else in the future? I did read that the device would need to be installed correctly based on the gas port exhausting gas to one side or the other based on the shooter being left or right handed.

I think that's really the main downside is not being able to swap muzzle devices. They were a lot more popular before the pistol thing kicked off.

If you’re good with using that muzzle device then go with it. I would only have concerns of you plan to suppress it and will need to change it for a mount.

I do love 14.5" barrels over 16" and too me it's more of a difference than you'd think. BUT, only on a SBR.

I'd prefer an unwelded 16". I like trying different muzzle devices, sometimes removing them for cleaning, etc.

Pinned and welded got replaced by AR pistols. If you like that muzzle device go for it.

I ran a 13.7" SOLGW mid-length barrel with a NOX pinned and welded pretty hard last year. In my experience the Nox drove the gun WAAAAAAY low. It was a little less noticeable with a can, but just weirdly over-compensated. Maybe it was because i timed it neutral, but I ended up ditching the upper, funky little muzzle device, the regular DA flash hider is a better option. As far as the pin and weld process goes, as long as you find someone who's reputable, it's a pretty simple process. Clayton Guns in Clayton, NC did mine, and they did an excellent job

Shouldn't be any issue the 13.7" SOLGW my buddy runs shoots well. I'll agree the nox is odd because its quite longer than a normal dead air tri prong. And the compensation is kinda funky. (See below) According to my gunsmith (maverick out in Caswell) you can remove a pin and weld and not ruin the barrel if the gunsmith did a good job. I've never done it myself so hopefully someone else can chime in.

$1200 is a decent price for a complete solgw rifle. These things go online for 1400-1500 (good luck finding one). You can get a new one for 1200 if you buy the complete upper and lower seperately when they go on sale but that takes MONTHS of commitment. This is what my buddy did this year and they typically sell out in a matter of hours so you have to be fast.

Solgw is good stuff, warranty is great, one of the owners Mike is extreme pro 2A, parts are high quality and their uppers are thermal fit which I really enjoy. I'd offer the pawn shop cash see if you can get a deal or atleast get out of paying taxes on it but even 1200 is solid imo unless it's been raped. If you didn't like it you should be able to get back what you paid and God forbid there's another scare (I'm looking at you today Kenosha) then you'd actually sell for a slight profit.

Personally I think the nox is kinda nit picky I wouldn't pay the premium to buy one on a build but I didn't find myself saying wow this sucks. Just more of dang they want and extra $60 for this muzzle device??? For reference my gun is a 14.5 pinned with a normal dead air tri prong.
