I'm looking at building the wife 8300 later this year, and was going to suppress it just for an extra step of fun and some make the blackout worthwhile. I know she has shot and handled some of my rifles and have claimed him to be a bit heavier, so I was thinking of either a pistol or an SBR for that, then started looking at some pinnedd and welded setups. I'm not crazy about that idea.

Was thinking a light weight setup, Omega on the end, but that would probably make a light rifle balance funny, at least for her. Hence the pistol or SBR.

What are your thoughts on this? P&W would be absolutely last on the list, which is one reason I'm thinking pistol, then can move to SBR from there.

I'm a little biased, but I'd vote for SBR.

I don't find find a lot of use for AR pistols, and I'd prefer not to have a P&W silencer. Just a lot more flexibility with an SBR. For that matter, you could keep a pistol-configured lower around for the few instances it would be an advantage over an SBR.

With the wait and added stamp I would go with a great silencer and a pistol. And I HATE "pistol" rifles. With new stock designs and the ATF "backing down" on the shouldering part its hard to justify an AR SBR. Now if you wanted to do something like a CZ or MP5 then I would say sbr, but with the AR and swapping uppers why pay the stamp? Other side of that coin is the ability to swap uppers so why not pay the stamp. Darn now I don't know what to do.... LOL If you have the funds for a can and stamp then go that route, if not then spend the extra on a solid can.

Nothing wrong with building a pistol configured AR and converting it to an SBR after the stamp clears. Plus, it gives you the chance to decide if you like the pistol and want to keep it that way or if you want to go ahead and F1 the whole thing

Pinning a suppressor isn’t a bad thing; I don’t view suppressors as a lifetime purchase. They are wear items like a barrel. That being said, I would pin one to a CHF barrel, or something I know has a LONG life. And I wouldn’t pin my first can....I’ve only gotten to the point now where I’m even thinking about pinning one, and I’ve got a few other rifle cans to choose from for other rifles so it’s not like my only can will be stuck on one rifle

So with this it would be a 2 stamper?

Do you have a length of the GP7? It looks promising!
With the Omega it would be a 2-stamper...unless you welded/silver soldered the DT mount into the tube, and then perm attached that setup to the barrel.

I'm going to go 2 stamp, start with the SBR and get the peices together, and figure out what can and save some pennies for it. I would have to build everything, so a barrel could be bought at any length, and for 125-200 for the P&W that's a stamp. I think the shorter length would be easier for the wife to operate

Don't forget most ranges will let you rent SBRs... may be a good way to find out what fits her best.

And there ought to be plenty of members in his area that would let his wife shoot one.

5.56: 6.2”, 12.5oz. $550 MSRP so it’ll be in the $400 range somewhere

7.62: 7.6”, 15.3oz. Didn’t hear the MSRP but it’ll likely be $100 or so more than the 5.56.
Pulled from 11B

If you're going to go with an SBR then I would look at the Paladin, Omega, and maybe a few others. If you have time you're welcome to stop by my place and look at both of those as well as several SBRs.

You can visit my paladin in jail with Jeremy!
