While ever so patiently (yeah!) waiting for my PAS 8.5" Ar 5.56 pistol to arrive, I've been trolling the web for goodies to make it my own. It is stock with a standard A2 type flash hider and I'm thinking it would be better for recoil, flash suppression and muzzle control with a different muzzle device.

The most effective in all three realms, according to my reading on the Internet, may be the Precision Armament EFAB Hybrid Muzzle Brake (https://precisionarmament.com/product/efab-hybrid-muzzle-brake/). Proving I have a champagne taste and beer budget I managed to zero in on one of the most expensive options, as usual.

Most manufacturers seem to say their muzzle devices are designed for 10.5" or longer barrels. Got that and understand why. But would they 'help' on a shorter barrel? Anybody out there been down this road and can point me in the right direction? What did you choose for your short barrelled pistol and why?

The Internet is a terrible thing !

Brakes will be hella loud on a shorty, which is why you often see the blast baffle type muzzle devices, like the Pig and KAK can. Those tend to direct blast down range. But they also seem to increase muzzle climb.

I have a Templar brake on my 12.5" SBR and it is very loud. Gun was built for outdoor 2gun matches so I double up on my ears and it's not too bad.

No experience with the EFAB. But brakes will certainly help and work, but the blast will be huge. @drypowder has the Battlecomp I think and it works well and is not super loud.

I just installed an Armalite brake on my 10.5". I haven't shot with anyone yet, but I have a feeling its going to make people around me mad. This thing has 3 plugs on it, 1 on top and 1 left and right, that you can drill out to tune the brake to your firearm.

From what I have seen they work awesome. Have been wanting to try one. Tuneability is nice.

Yeah gonna be loud!!

Thanks, guys. I just found a new KIES Blastmaster linear compensator I bought several years ago and promptly forgot about. Reckon I'll try this first since the price is right. Just ordered up some new crush washers since I can't find the bag of them I have someplace. It's got to be at least some better than the A2 flash hider that's on there now.

I've got a similar style brake on one of my AKs and it is pretty unbearable for those standing beside it. I would venture to say it's even worse on a 223 with the screach from that velocity...dang effective though, yet I imagine if I had to use it in a defensive situation with no earpro I would officially go deaf.

I have considered doing an AR pistol build and getting a KAK can.
