Pistol red dots?

Back in 08' we ran JPoint micro red dots on top of our ACOGs in Baghdad. Had several go down. Fast forward 10 years and SF is running L3 Insight and Doctor sights on top of Elcans and Glocks.

Would definitely be interesting to find out. Especially since Trijicon usually touts their SOCOM relationship.
Depending on what part of SOCOM they are, don't they usually get to chose what gear to run and are not beholden to typical gov contract deals?

Haven't found a lot of recent info/reviews on either the Docter or the Insight MRDS. This short thread from several years back was bout it: https://www.ar15.com/forums/handguns/RMR_vs_Doctor/23-148146/

... IMO the Sig Romeo and the micro dots from Vortex are NOT something I would put on something I would use for anything serious.

I'd love to know why not, though it's really too late. I just bought a Sig Romeo for my PCC. :(

They are just cheaply made, Chinese budget optics. I’m am sure that for most people’s needs, they will work just fine, but like I said, I wouldn’t ever use one for anything serious i.e. mil/Le usage. There’s a reason you don’t see any agency’s or departments using anything other than the DPP or RMR. Even with the Army adopting the Sig, they specified that the optic cut was to be for a delta point pro.

They are however, really affordable right now. I’ve been looking into the right way to get into optics and see if it’s something I’m interested in without breaking the bank. Sig is giving away Romeo 1s with the new xcarry this month and I scored a complete slide with Romeo 1 already installed for 329$ to the house.
If I do like pistol mounted optics I’ll cave in a shell out to have a pistol milled and rmr installed for almost double what I have invested in this.

Holosun 507C is coming out in green dot soon. I am holding out until then. I am selling my MRO and bought a Holosun 510c for an AR in green and so far its held up good and we have banged it around. I only have about 750 rounds using it, but the Holosun Elite series are pretty good. Ryan at Apex told me that they are trying to sell to the military so they have upped their game. If you haven't seen a green dot it is VERY visible. I pick it up much much better than a red dot. I also have a vortex on a Canik SFX that needs to go back, i think it lasted two magazines before completely failing. I think Vortex low end stuff sucks. I don't want a lifetime warranty, i want stuff that doesn't break when i use it.

I was just coming to post about that. Looks very interesting and I really like the top load battery and that it’s the same footprint as the RMRs.

I’m excited about this one. Hope glass isn’t tinted and bad like the rmr.
