Do any of you guys have experience with any of the Pk-01 sights? I’ve been thinking about getting one.

Let me know if you have had a bad experience with one.

Do they have the battery life of a modern optic? I’ve been spoiled by aimpoints that I can leave on for years.

They just look so right on an AK and they don’t cost too much

No, the battery life is like 150-500 hours, depending on the model. PK-01, PK-01VS, etc.

They DO look sweet, but if something goes wrong, you're pretty much SOL. This is why I opted for an Aimpoint. - I've got a Midwest Ind. mount and a PRO. If you have the extra cash, I'd prob do the RS Reg mount with an Aimpoint Micro, unless you want the 30mm tube.

That said, if you have the extra cash and don't care about warranty, go for it. People love them. I'd do the VS.

Awesome thanks for your input! The RS mounts also look very good, may go that route.

No PK-01 here, but I do have a PK-A I got from @charliesgrave that I still really enjoy. It's a great optic. Well built, crisp dot, and holds zero after lots of use, even after removing from a gun. I've also not had to change the battery yet after having it for a year (although I do turn off all my red dots after use - even the Aimpoint - and have spare batteries in my range back just in case). Plus, as you said above, it just looks awesome on an AK. Have you checked out russianoptics.net? It's has a lot of good information about the various options.

Ditto what @IrishCannon said about RS Regulate though. If you choose to go that route, the guys at Royally Screwed build some fantastic mounts. Quite expensive, but you can often find blems on their "Other Products" page, or find them secondhand on other forums.

The absence of a warranty for something so expensive is definitely troublesome, but for what it's worth, all of my Russian and Belarusian optics are tanks. From this PK-A and a Kobra, to POSP scopes, to an old WW2-era PU ... they're just solid, reliable optics. They work.

I ended up going with the RS Regulate Mount. Read a couple of scary stories of broken Russian sights that couldn’t be fixed. Didn’t want to tie up $4-500 in something I can’t trust. Plus the battery life on these micro dots is unbelievable.

Bought the AK-301M+AKML straight from RS Regulate. They had it in my mailbox 2 1/2 days later. Very fast!

The mount is very light and very low. Perfect co-witness. Optic and mount together weigh 6 ounces.
