I have an itch for a Model 28 Highway Patrolman with a 4" barrel. It's for sentimental reasons but also because I just want one. Have been wanting one for years and its time to make it happen.

Finding one has been difficult. Does anyone here have any good places to look? Off the beaten path shops that might just have one? Anyone looking to sell?

A Model 27 with a 4" barrel would be just find too but they seem even more difficult to find.

Thanks ya'll.

My first thought was to just get on I95 and put the pedal to the metal. Then again I don't think that quite what you want...

Good luck with you hunt!
That's a pink driving award he'll get. Don't think that's what he is talking about. LOL

I ain’t gonna carry it. It’ll be a toy. A well moved range toy. Then again it might end up as a night stand gun. I’m strange like that.

I'll keep an eye out for a good one. They are out there. I think Ed's had one come in recently. You could check his forum.

I got my brother from another mother watching Ed’s very closely. ;)

I think it's a 19. 2 1/2", pinned and recessed, and in nice shape. Pretty desirable in the S&W revolver world.
Shut up John, dont listen to him Pink, hes been drinking… Tell your son Ill buy that rough ole worn out S&W from him. Look at that holster wear, shew

:)

I'll look into it. I believe it's from @ '63, the cylinder is recessed for brass and the hammer has the pin on it.

I gave it to him for a house warming gift. The next one got my Colt Commander, it's the only handgun he shot well.

That is an awesome gift. I hope they appreciate it because they don’t make them like that anymore.

Just bought this new 27 at Fuquay Gun and Gold. SW has a $30 rebate through March for military active, retired, and VA

I thought you wanted an actual HP. I was going to suggest borrowing one of my trash trucks. They’ll find you pretty quick and for no reason just to do a safety inspection if you drive up and down 85 for a couple of hours.

Please excuse the thread-jack but reading about a Highway Patrolman made me nostalgic for mine. Here's some pictures from almost 10 years ago of hiking and shooting mine in the Mojave desert. Those were the days my friend....

Long gone now, sadly. Best of luck on your hunt for a 28! Great, great revolvers.

That’s not a thread hijack. That’s a thread enhancer! Thanks for the story and the pictures.

I might end up with a Model 29 instead. There is a chance I may be able to purchase one owned by my dearly departed uncle. He was a great guy that taught me what it was to be a student of the gun.

I am not much of a revolver guy but I own a few. My 28-2 is one of my favorites. It is an absolute tank compared to my 19. I picked this up a few years ago. From what I have seen prices keep going up but there are bargins out there if you are patient.

The Model 29 will probably be easier to find. My Dad had a 4" HP that I let my Mom sell for a song when he passed away back in '94. I wasn't into guns back then. I wish I could find the guy who bought it and buy it back for what he paid for it, LOL.
So I understand the sentimental attachment. That being said if it doesn't have to be a HP, look for a 29....
