What is nice about the Savage barrel nut system allows you to change barrels relatively easily at home. Your bolt face is .473 so any cartridge based off the parent 7.9X57 Mauser, 30-06, .308 Win cases will work. The 30-06 has historically won many long range matches. I can be set up to shoot accurately. Start with a very good barrel, trued action and bedded correctly. You didn't state if you reload your own or limited to factory ammo. Federal did make a Gold Metal 168 gr BTHP Match load, not sure if they still do. If you reload then you know its case prep, proper bullet and then load development.

I'm debating a .06 long range rifle as well. I think you're on the right track, and I Know Hornady makes some good ammo, either the black or precision Hunter.

My issue is the barrel, and the fact I don't have an action. It gets expensive starting from scratch lol.
