Pls share your experience with shoulder holsters

Shoulder rigs are great for this time of the year, if you take the time to get used to it. It's not like a belt rig in that you get used to it with really minimal effort. Think about the first time you used an ankle holster or pocket carry... you were really uncomfortable and anxious until you got used to it. A shoulder rig is just like a crossdraw belt holster, you move your gun hand with minimal movement so the draw gets really fast the more you practice it. A lot of people and practically every range will down them "because you flag everyone" on the draw. If you train like you fight, you'll automatically take a step forward with your support foot, like when you punch. If you'll extend that step forward by another half-step, you've angled your body towards the target and (by keeping your elbows nice and tight) you don't flag everyone when you draw. It's (again) in essence a cross draw like you would from your belt. Just be sure and practice what you do with your support hand so you don't flag it.

And, only a schmuck would wear a shoulder holster open carry ( not hunting or hiking)... that's tactically dumb and asking to get your weapon pinned or taken. The MBPD guy should get schooled by his buddies. Tacticool stuff is just bad for all of us.

And, spend once, cry once. Pay the money for a decent adjustable rig, practice, change your coats around to fit, and you may like it. Or, you may find you hate it. But, at least give it a fair shake. I suffer from T-Rex syndrome ( big chest, shoulders, and belly; but short arms) and I have to stick with harnesses I can adjust to me. Otherwise, it's no bueno.

I'll bet there's folks on here who would gladly loan you one or two to try out for free. I know we all have a box or drawer full of holsters we aren't currently using, probably for guns we don't even own anymore.

Thank you.

It is very comfortable, even with two full size guns. These photos are not so good, a few years old but you can probably get the jest of it......... My recently deceased friend in Ohio had a couple of pairs of boots/shoes made for me, along with some for himself by Russell Moccasin. One with Elephant, other with Buffalo. I have not yet broke them in.........
