upload_2019-1-31_8-55-58.pngI get a lot of sediment off our well so I am thinking of installing this Rusco filter (~150 micron screen) prior to our house filter (~30 micron).
Any downside installing the Rusco filter prior to the pressure tank? I am thinking it it will be an advantage if I can minimize silt in the pressure tank.

Thank you in advance.

I did more interweb research and the consensus was to install the filter after the pressure switch. However, I couldn’t find an explanation on why.

I’m no plumber but I would think that if this filter were to clog, the pump may over pressurize the pipes between the pump and filter before the pressure switch shuts the pump off.
I installed a shutoff valve in my system to be able to isolate the house for those times when I need to work on the pump/bladder/pressure switch and I absolutely didn’t want to put any restrictions between the pump and the switch.

Have you raised the pump up a few feet?
Sometimes that is all that's needed.
Yes, I did try raising the pump first by ~5’ and then another 5’ but that did not help. I think there is a lot of turbulence in the acquifer because the closeness to the lake especially after a heavy rain.

Makes sense - Thank you. Will go that way then. Install the sediment spindown filter after the pressure switch before the pressure tank.

All of my plumber buddies...the first thing they say about whole house filters is to not put a super duper micron filter on there as it will eventually burn out the well pump. The super-fine filters add a significant amount of resistance when new, and when they start to get dirty that intensifies and the well pump has to work it's butt off to reach pressure.
The objective is to get a decent amount of filtration, but to not get highly restrictive with it. They all say just use the simple $5 rope filters.
