Was in the market for a deep concealment pocket type pistol. Bought the Ruger LCP II. Experienced 1 Failure to Eject in a 112 round session. It was on the first mag 3rd shot, pistol straight out the box. Everything after that was smooth. 100 rounds of federal fmj, and 12 rounds of Hornady FTX.

Got to go buy more 380. Cleaned it last night. I’ll run another 100 today, and if no Failures I’ll chalk it up to a fluke, new break in etc. I will say these are much better than the old LCP’s, TCP’s and Keltecs as far as shooting them. Much more shootable with a decent trigger for such a small pocket pistol, and slightly better sights. I like that the slide locks back on this little pistol. Front sight will need a little paint.

Let @Millie borrow it for a week, then you'll know for sure if it was a fluke.
Just kidding Millie.
On a serious note good luck with the new gun, hopefully it was a fluke since you're still in the break in phase

Do not let me touch your gun!!! LoL.
I've had issues with FOUR guns now.....FOUR.....it's me!

Sorry you're having issues right out of the gate. Usually mine begin after thousands of rounds, so yours may just be breaking-in stuff. I hope that's all it is. Keep us up on how it goes.

(Anything I can learn about problems and how people solve them can only help me, having now had 4 guns with various "issues." And all between February and yesterday!)

I own one of these. I’ve run a couple hundred rounds through it and it has been the most reliable as compared to three other sub sub compact .380s that I no longer own. My only beef is the sights, and I shoot it low, but I consider it a great “get off me” gun that I trust for deep concealment.

Better trigger than the rest of them for sure.

106 more rounds today. 100 FMJ, 6 FTX’s. 0 failures. No issues other than a bit of discomfort under the trigger guard with my finger, no big deal though. This is a backup gun / deep concealment gun, not a fun range gun.

Yeah 380 cost more than 9mm, crazy, and the FTX’s are expensive.

I’ve read the FTX or XTP bullet was one of the only hollow points in 380 that would penetrate reliably past 12 inches in ballistic gel in sub 3” barrels. The others expand too much and lose penetration. In 9mm I’m a fan of HST’s. I was thinking of carrying ball ammo, but the FTX in 380 seems to be decent based on reviews, and I’ve fed 3 mags of it in the LCP II with no issues.

Did you get 7 round or 6 round mag?
I have an LCP (1st generation) and the 7 round mag causes Feeding jams.

I carry .380 ball ammo once the weather turns cold, and Speer Gold Dots the rest of the time. It really doesn't get carried that much. It just prints less than the G43 in my front pocket when necessary.

The LCP II seems to be a totally different beast from the LCP I had. But I still run stock 6 rd mags.

It was a failure to eject, not a feeding jam. I was using the 6 round mag. I did buy a factory 7 round mag for later range use or if I want to carry a spare, but have not used it yet. For the primary purpose of this firearm, I doubt I even carry the spare 7 round on my person. I will try that 7 round mag eventually.

Did you keep the LC9s?

Those mags are so small, and as a spare I’m able to get a hold of the factory 7 round mag in my pocket better, and pull it out turned the correct way by feel due to that little extension on the end. The 7 round is still small enough it doesn’t take much room in the pocket. While I haven’t shot the 7 round mag yet, it feels better practicing reloads than the 6 round.

Is the trigger on the LCP II a major improvement over the 1st gen ? I have a 1st gen (500 + rounds) that has been reliable as rain for years, but I'd consider buying the LCP II if I could get a much better trigger.

Yes. It. Is.

Sold it a few months ago. Ever since I got that gen 5 Glock 19, I didn’t carry it much. Plus they had those EC9s for 199 that I picked up at pawn south. Got one of those in the safe. Almost exactly the same gun other than the sights.

I’m thinking a p365 will be my next purchase.

Oh pawn south has some FNS 9mm long slides for 269 this week ;) Police trade ins with night sights. They are in good shape at the one in Tabor. Had 14 left Yesterday at that location.

You down-east fellas seem to have the best pawn shops. That is the only thing I miss about living in Fayetteville. Tell those Pawn South folks to start a store about 200 miles west so we hillbillies can partake in some of those good deals. Most of our pawn shops in WNC are a storehouse for stolen tools from Lowes, DVD's, and $600 used Glocks.

Much better. Around 5 pounds 14 oz to 6lb ,smoother, more crisp break. Almost like a striker fired trigger feel. It’s good for a pocket pistol, but not too short or light, still fine for pocket carry. Last round slide holds open. It’s worth the upgrade, and they’ve been out long enough and have good reviews.

I very much disliked the old Ruger DAO triggers.
LCP II is nothing like that heavy long DAO pull on the old LCP that goes all the way back, then all the way forward for reset. It’s has hard to shoot, took a lot of concentration.

Mine breaks right at 5lbs, sometimes a little less, although it "feels" heavier, but still has the easy take up of a striker fire pistol. My reset is not as tactile as a Glock, but I'm not shooting that gun to reset. If it ever gets actually used I'll be slapping the heck out of the trigger, for its intended purpose.

They couldn’t get rid of them marked at 329, marked them down to 269 now. A lot of the fudds around here don’t know who FN is. Manger told me he gets questioned daily wanting to know if it’s a good brand and he hears so many say I’ve never heard of FN. Now the last batch of trade in M&P’s they had sold fast. They are high in most prices but you can get some deals in there sometimes.

Yep it’s a bit longer and less tactical, but that’s fine for a pocket pistol. I won’t be going for 25 yard bullseye.

I am convinced. I've seen them used at around $200, will likely grab up the next one I see at that price. A more civilized trigger would be nice, and I can pass my old LCP down to my nephew. BTW, does the II use the same mags as the original ?

Judging from Ruger's accessories page they are different mags.
It is a different frame.

My LCP was considered nothing more than a last resort. I could CHP qualify with it, no problem but it wasn't any fun to shoot after awhile. I have an LCP II now, long story, and actually play around plinking for accuracy with it. All because of the trigger.

No it doesn't. LCP mags work in it but the slide won't lock back.

The LCP II’s new run 250-289 around here in shops. I never found a used one. I’ve been looking at them for a while. I’ve seen them cheaper on sale at Palmetto State Armory in the past if you order online. I think they had them new for 200 before.

You can use the old LCP mags in the LCP II, but they won’t lock the slide back on the last round.

At least I will be able to use a few of the originals as a range mag. Ruger really ought to give you more than one mag when they sell a gun. Or at least sell those tiny little mags for a reasonable price. Not like I've ever complained because I had to buy more firearms accessories.
