Do you routinely place items in (online) shopping carts even with little or vague intent to buy?

Just put items in there for which one has no or very little actual (or perhaps vague) purchase interest?

I'm genuinely curious: I only became aware of the phenomenon of cart-stuffing after perusing some guitar sites e.g. Reverb. I tried reading up on the why and wherefores of pro forma adding items to a shopping cart. The different perspectives are interesting.

So even though today is not Friday, I thought to post a poll.

I always have stuff in my Amazon cart. That makes them flag changes in prices, not only on stuff in the cart but also the ā€œwish listā€. When I see something with a significant enough decrease, I may jump. ;)

Back before the ammo stupidness hit, I would routinely add things over time to an Outdoor Limited shopping cart and then when the money was there Id order a pretty decent sized amount all at once. Helped me remember what I needed, and helped to compare prices.

Shopping cart?
@kcult corrected me a while back that is called a buggy
But, yes i put items in the online buggy since every now and then I get extra discount to entice me to pull the trigger :)

I need another choice: "Only if the site does not have a wish list feature."

if You leave it in your cart long enough some places with send you a coupon to purchase it

I find it easier to add to cart vs creating a wish list when trying to narrow down options. Plus many times I have to add to cart to see the price.

As a fringe benefit, certain sites will send you a coupon code to encourage you to complete your cart.

On a side note I always put my cart up when Iā€™m finished with it.
I empty it in hopes they won't email me about what I left.
I put stuff in for three reasons without being committed to buying. Checking shipping. Comparing totals, including shipping/taxes. Checking price, but rarely as I hate price in cart stuff, woohoo $2 off map... and a week's worth of we think this deserves another look emails.

I have recently been ordering groceries online from Walmart for pickup at the store, mainly for my mother who is almost 90 and doesn't need to be going into a building full of people. In order to reserve a pickup time (she lives almost two hours away and I only visit her once a week) I will put $30 worth of charcoal or other miscellaneous stuff in the cart as soon as the pickup times are made available on the day I'll be visiting (which may be 3-4 days in advance). Then, when she gives me her actual shopping list, I put those items in the cart and remove my charcoal. I found that if I wait until she decides what she wants, all the pickup times for the day of my visit will be gone. But, as long as I get an order in the system, I can add or delete items up until 1:00 a.m. on the day of pickup.

What if there's a horse involved? Do things get mixed up?

(One of many things that keep me awake at night o_O)
Depends on the horseā€™s IQ. ;)

Isn't that just a Northeastern thing?

$0.10 for beer cans when I was young and went to school in Bridgeport CT too. Probably $0.50 now!
No idea. Iā€™ve never paid for one anywhere. I think the ones at Concord Mills cost something.

They do that in NJ/NY if I remember correctly. Had to pay to get it out of the rack like luggage carts at the airport.

But you got it back when you put it in the other end.

Maybe not anymore, I'm old what the he'll do I know!

Maybe just include that under "seldom" - I can't seem to edit the original, though I could add another "seldom, unless ..."

Nice "turnout" though: 21 responses and counting.

I think he's talking about Aldi. You put in a quarter to get a cart, then when you return it you get your quarter back. It saves the store from having to police up the parking lot for carts.

I usually just add to my list, so it'll give me that alert at checkout.

As for the poll - seldom, usually only if I need to see a shipped price etc
