Popeye's Chicken Sandwich... My Experience...

So I decided to go one more time to finalize my take on this. Happened to be passing by a Popeye's as they were opening today and knew it was a good chance to grab a bite while I was on the go today. So I went in. Saw that at opening they already have a hundred sandwiches made and ready to sell. Not interested in any of these... So to the girl's chagrin, I ordered a spicy sandwich and a regular sandwich, both without pickle. They made me up two fresh sandwiches and I got fries fresh out of the fryer too and an unsweet tea. When I got in the truck I removed them both from the foil bags so they wouldn't steam. Ate a few fries(good being fresh but still not great fries) and started in on a sammich...

Damn that's a good sandwich. Especially the spicy sandwich... Both are far superior to Chick-Fil-A. The key is freshness. Get it super fresh and it's spectacular. It seems to be a short window though.

That's where Popeye's falls short. Crap organization. They're the Cleveland Browns of take out. Well maybe not that bad. Let's say they're the Houston Texans. They can get the win, but the talent is down the road in Dallas. Chick-Fil-A can run you through a full parking lot in 5mins with piping hot fresh food and a smile. Popeye's does it in 10-15mins with a smirk and a frown even when they're slow.

Chick Fil'A has the drive thru down pat. Best in the business.
McDonalds also does a decent job but way behind CFA.
All the other drive thrus are about equal... equally poor to bad.
Popeye's may not have Mensa grads manning the window but I've seen worse.

I’ll try one when I can order it from something like Grubhub.

Let somebody else wait in line and risk their life. ;)

You can now. There was a GrubHub pick up area in the store I visited today.

Except for the new one near me. I can go 10 minutes in ~5 different directions and still get served faster than the one closest to the house.

48 minutes the first time. Only stayed in line because I didn’t want to drive over their shrubs to abandon ship.

Every time since then, whether drive-thru or carry-out, it’s been noticeably slower than any other one I’ve been in. :(

CFA customer service is 2nd to none.
Write corporate and share your experiences.
I bet they look into it and correct it whether with new management or more training.
They may even give you coupons for some free stuff!

I've been telling people wait till the craze dies down so you can get a freshly prepared sandwich. It's a really good sandwich and the spicy is damn good. I definitely rate it better than Chic Fila. It's really not a good idea or fair to judge the sandwich based on what's taking place now.

Definitely better fresh and I agree it's better than Chic-Fil-A... If they had better fries and service I would make an effort to go there more often...

My boss and I tried to stop at the new location in Winston today. But the place was swamped. We ended up at TacoHell...:(

Screw the fries, give me their red beans and rice all day!!!

I hear ya. If I am eating fast food it's because I'm on the go and eating while driving. Everyone says get something other than fries but the reason for the sandwich over fried chicken is convenient eating... I try to limit utensil use while driving. Lol...

They should ask if you want a side or Pepto with your value meal. :p

Well I tried to put my theory to the test... Had to do an early lunch today and stopped by Popeye's at 10:00am as they were opening. Two employees were outside the front door yelling at each other...

I left and went to Chick-Fil-A...

Don't care if it's slightly better. Not worth it...

The Troopers, Deputies and PD frequent the Garner location.
Never any trouble.

But, at least you apparently got out in one piece. ;)

Nobody is going to mess with a man wearing a necklace made of human ears. Not even at the Popeye's in the worst part of town.

You need to up your driving and eating skills. We had a driver here get suspended for eating a bowl of cereal going down the road.

I had to try Popeye's. Stopped at the TA Truck stop on I85 today, who doesn't feel safe at a truck stop. I almost hate to admit it but the chicken sandwich was GOOD! Told the wifey that next date night will be a the local truck stop!:p

I had to try it last Friday at lunch time. I waited 14 minutes after i ordered (inside) & received an overcooked room temperature chicken sammich. The flavor was good but the rest was crap.
Been Once...mirrors our experience^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Garbage. Used to be the best chicken sandwich out there, but now those hammered flat dried out over crusted patties are virtually inedible...
Not so. You have to find one of the locations that is still an idependant franchise. They still use the old suppliers etc. The easiest way to tell is older locations that do not accept online coupons. Notice of the coupon policy is generally taped to the frive thru speaker.

While I love a cajun filet biscuit/sandwich, at least you couldve put the bun on there and not had the thing falling apart in the picture lol

Picked up one of each of the classic and they spicy from the Lumberton Popeye’s the other evening. In my opinion the classic was good but was just a chicken sandwich. The spicy was good but I’d prefer both CFA and Bojangles for a spicy chicken sammich. The Popeye’s spicy sandwich is regular chicken with a spicy mayo, and I like the chicken spicy with the ability to even it out with mayo (or CFA sauce) if I want to.

Either way, they were good but not worth the hype.

Had it today. Well here is my experience...

It was good.

I had the spicy, ordered without pickles so they had to make it fresh/for me.
As said, the chicken, itself, isnt spicy, it's the spread. Next time I'd ask for more of that, had a great flavor and a bit more spicy than BoJ, which I had less than 24 hours earlier.

So comparing a spicy filet and fries from bojangles at lunch on Saturday to the same thing at Popeyes on Sunday...I got to go Popeyes on this. but I'd like more spread next time. But I like the breading style on the BoJ more than the popeyes. They both have pros.

Also, what helps, is the blackened ranch to dip fries (or whatever) in.

Price was comperable
The service was a little slower, but whatever
All the white folks in the one I was in (Gaffney SC) were polite and reserved, BUT the blacks...well, they were also polite and reserved.

Good experience, wont have it often but that's due to proximity, but I did enjoy it.

Mrs. Geezer and I ventured out to Conway to try the Popeye's Chicken Sandwich . We were going to get it to to bring home but we went inside to order. There was only one other person in there. On the menu board there was a small banner over the regular and spicy sandwiches saying, "Returning Soon". I was walking back to the door to leave and the wife asked someone and they said that they did have the sandwiches. So I go back and ordered one of each.
I tried the spicy one first. It was good, not worth taking a bullet good, but, it was good. I'll have the plain one for lunch tomorrow. I cannot understand all the hooplala over this sandwich. It is, after all, just a sandwich.

@Geezer
You might wanna lock tomorrow’s sammich in your safe overnight. Seems there are people willing to do crazy things to get one. ;)

I finally got to try it..........I dont see the big deal. I do like Popeyes but I dont see the hype over this sammich. It was good, like I expected but the only feature over the top was the size of the chicken breast between the buns....it was huge.

Im sure I will have another at some point, but the next chicken sammich I have will be made in BowWow's Kitchen.

Had CFA yesterday - the service was great as always. But, dang, that little piece of chicken was silly. When in the center of the bun it never touched the edge of the bun.
They keep with this and I'll go to Popeyes purely for the value, same price MUCH larger amount of chicken
