Square VS Lightspeed VS ....?.....
Anybody have experience with either....or maybe another option?
This will be for remote sales via ipad/iphone.

I do not have experience with either. But I remember Square came out as an anti-2A processor a few years back. I think they wanted to deny any firearm-related transactions, but I don't remember the details. (i.e. don't take my word for it, try to find an update)

EDIT:

Gee whiz, they're no fun at all! :)

I heard the same, but I never confirmed it.

That is true with square but I've used them for years. I've used them dozens of times at gun shows just not noted any evidence of gun sales. Besides the anti 2a theu do what they say

Square seems to be the standard for off-site sales.

If a storefront or website sales are in the near future plans, I’d go Lightspeed.

I’ve used a handful of them through the years. There are quite a few more options these days.

Ignoring the pro/anti 2A aspect for a moment…

If you’re already set up for PayPal, they have an option:

I have a card reader for them similar to Square, but I’m not sure if it’s still usable or not.

You can also set up Venmo, Apple Pay, CashApp, and others where you might not even need a reader.

Ok, got my Square hardware, now I need a dedicated iPad.
For remote sales, would a wifi/cellular unit be best, or is wifi good enough? Not sure yet how all of this works, but I was thinking that if I don't have wifi at POS then I could download the sales tally when I do have wifi? Really didn't want the expense of a cellular add-on unless I need it.

Maybe I need to learn how to do that. Have an iPhone 11 I think. Never tried to use the hotspot.

Go to settings and then 5th option down or so should be “personnel hot spot”. Just remember to turn it off because it will drain your battery if you leave it on all the time.

I always use the hotspot on my phone for iPad Wi-Fi in the field.
This, make sure to put a password on your hotspot (like your home wifi) so only your device can access it. We run square (on 2 iPads) and stream Amazon prime music on one of them and don’t use a gig a month. Most unlimited data plans come with a few gigs of hotspot data per month, if they don’t it’s a nominal cost to add it to your existing plan ($5-10 a month for maybe 10G) with most carriers. Typical use is 8ish hours a week, 20ish if we’re doing a 2 day festival or something like that instead of the Farmers Market on Saturday.

FYI if you end up using it regularly you may want to invest in a Square Stand, and depending on the number of different products you are selling a Bluetooth bar code scanner to add onto it.

Square Stand I wanna say they occasionally run them on sale for sub $100, thinking we paid about $90 each for our two.
