Just wondering if you all could send some good thoughts and prayers my way. Theres nothing bad going on. Some may know that I'm a firefighter and tomorrow I am taking the written portion of the Captains promotional test. So if you don't mind send some good thoughts and prayers my way to do good on this and the rest of the process! Thanks in advance!

May the Lord give you the wisdom and guide you along the right path. Good luck.

YOU GOT THIS!
Stay positive, know you busted your butt up to this point and are well prepared for it

Make it happen. You know yer S%$#, any concern about it is a mind trick.

Thoughts & prayers for tomorrow!

Holding our collective breath for your announcement of the good news. What guns are you gonna buy with the increased income Captain?

Sorry I missed this. I hope it went well for you Zbizzle.

Best of skill. A family friend is a fire captain in Nags Head.

Well, how do you think it went @Zbizzle911?

It’s hard to tell. This is just one part. The test was kinda messed up. 95% of the questions were “ which of the following is most correct “ and three of the answers were right. I’ve got my assessment center this week. That’ll be the last part.

Go Zack!!!!

Well heres an update. I got the email today saying that I had made the list to be promoted so hopefully I will get a spot soon! Thanks again for all the prayers and good thoughts!
When you have time, would you explain how this works?

How many Captains are there in the department?
How many per station?
How many got the same email?
What does it take for you to get the spot? Somebody has to exit first?
What's the Captain's job? How will it be different from what you're currently doing?
How many more guns per month will you be able to buy with the raise? :D

So I'm just going to speak about the operations division ( this is the largest division and is the "people on the fire truck")

We have 14 Engines , 4 Ladder trucks and one Rescue company. Each of these trucks has a Captain assigned to it on each of the three shifts. So thats something like 57 Captains spots. There are a couple in the Admin side of things like training division. Some stations have multiple trucks so there are Captains for each truck at each station. There were 11 that took the same test as I did. Each of these spots as with every other spot on the department are budgeted spots. We are allocated a certain number of spots each year so its something where someone has to leave for a spot to open unless there is a company added to the department. The Captains job is to be a frontline supervisor. They are in charge of the truck they are assigned to. They supervise the people assigned to the truck. They also take care of all the paperwork around the station like reports and training records. Right now I am an FEO ( Fire Equipment Operator) or driver so its my job to drive and operate the truck. I also get to ride in charge when the Captain is off. As for buying more guns per month I'm not sure its a 10% raise so I'm sure uncle sam will get most of it as will my 22 month old son lol

Loud and clear, thanks!

Congrats bud.

@Jeppo forgot one question, how many cats do you rescue out of trees on a monthly basis?
I didn't forget.

I was embarrassed to ask in the forum so I sent him a PM.

:p

There was only one guy here who doubted that would happen.

And he got the promotion today.

U da man Z!

Now...can I show you the overpriced guns I have for sale? :D

What ever happened to Fireman rescuing cats from trees? :)

I've never personally called the FD to get a cat out of a tree. I've always figured
that if it knew how to climb UP the tree, then it'll figure out how to climb DOWN.

Back in the mid 80's, we had a kitten "stuck" in a tree. My daughters wanted me to get it
down. So I stepped inside and got a 22 rifle. My daughters screamed, "Not THAT way!"

Then I explained to them, "Cats have been climbing trees forever. Have you ever seen
a cat skeleton up in a tree? They always come down eventually."

And it did come down on its own after a while...

True story.
