Post-41F NFA Stamp Tracking thread

Last three EForm approvals on ARF are:
6/17->7/7
6/17->7/7
6/19->7/7

I think two were individuals, and one was a 2RP trust.

Thank the LORT!
Form 4s for Cans:
Sishop entry: 6/29/18
Docusigned: 7/7/18
Cashed: 7/18/18
Approved: ?? (got to get them first)
Dealer called: 7/8/19

Just under a year, and nothing on my Chimera yet, which was all done the same time except the tax stamp was cashed 7/19/18

I don't know if I am built for the Form 4 game with these year long waits. I've got a SBS with check cashed of 10/30/19 and my Turbo K was just cashed 6/14/19.

I may have to start doing some Form 1 cans...

Form 4 SBS? Or you filed a paper Form 1?

You could EForm another SBS today and have it back first. :p

Two eForms...submitted 10:30a-11a on Monday 6/24/19. Prints mailed 6/25 & received 6/28.

Approved ~8:15p on Tuesday 7/23. Only thing “different” about these is I did a Entity Documentation Certification instead of providing a copy of my trust. That’s the 24-month exception they allow. One advantage is there couldn’t be any reinterpretation of who may or may not be an RP.

I broke my own rule of not calling to check on a Form 4. It really doesn’t matter about these, because I already have them. They’re transferring from me as an individual to a new trust I set up.

I have two I mailed in the same envelope, so I’ll assume they’re both approved even though I only asked about one SN.

Mailed: 8.3.18
CC charged: 8.10.18
Pending: 8.13.18
Approved: 7.22.19
Received: 8.1.19

ETA: next one in the pipeline is my “free” Octane 45K, which has an 11.5.18 pending date...that one will be costly, as I need to buy a host for it

Nice! His is even an individual form 4, no trust. So I wish you the best. I honestly think the wait is worse on me than the customer. I feel like “is there something else I can do?”.

Just a little info I got in an email today from an examiner. I saw this topic: https://www.ar15.com/forums/Armory/My-Experience-w-Batch-Processing/17-501754/

...and figured what the heck, it would only take a minute to fire off an email. (I do have Ted’s direct line and email address, but I used the Ask The Experts anyway)

Submitted the request yesterday evening (after 8p) sometime and got a reply this morning just before noon. Here’s what I sent (with some info redacted):

I had two EForms approved last week (7/23) for permit numbers 201926#### & 201926####. I also had two paper forms approved on 7/22 (SNs T00### & EL22###). All are registered to Lastname Trust, and no changes have been made to that document. Can that info and background checks be used to approve serial numbers OCT45K-#### & TK00### that are already in the system?

And here’s the reply:

Mr. Lastname,

Both of the serial numbers you gave also have an approved background check. We are working forms in the order in which they are received and we are currently working forms received in Aug. of 2018.

TK00### was received in May 2019

OCT45K-#### was received in November of 2018

Unfortunately we are unable to pull these forward out of the processing order. I anticipate we should be getting to the November 2018 application soon. We are processing applications as diligently as possible.

Thank you for continued patience.

So, my takeaways (most of which aren’t revelations) are:

1. They’ll never tell you the complete truth, as there have been multiple examples of batch processing in the last several months
2. They aren’t honest (or really just don’t know) about what’s being worked for some reason...as I’ve seen July, August, September, October and November (maybe even December) forms already approved, that weren’t part of any batch
3. They’re working August, yet my November form is “soon”
4. The background checks are done earlier/faster than I was aware of

In regards to the BGC, she said my Turbo-K is basically already “approved” by the FBI background check process, roughly two months after I mailed it in. Mailed it 5/22 and CC was charged 5/28. That gives you an idea of how long your forms just sit around in a box waiting their turn. The two paper forms I had approved 7/22/19 had been pending since 8/13/18.

I guess the positive takeaway, if there is one, is I shouldn’t be in the BGC black hole you hear about. Trust document hasn’t changed (and wasn’t even sent in with the Turbo-K), so that shouldn’t cause any delay. Just a matter of waiting for somebody to open the boxes my forms are in.

I've been thinking way too much about this. Considering how standardize the forms are, and how little variation there probably is between likely 80% of the forms, I've come to these conclusions:
1. They either have NO quota for total reviews per time period by inspector or one that is so low it doesn't matter.
2. The bulk of their work I'd bet is receiving, unpackaging, an initial review for completeness, check cashing/payment processing, and initiating the background checks. Once the background check comes back, more filing. I'd guess filing and organizing all the applications is the most work.
3. However, all of the above could literally be done by 9th graders and run smoothly. Which leads me back to my first point, the real problem with this entire thing has got to be the examiners pace plus the shortage of them given the volume of applications.

I'd love to see the P&L for the department. Including salaries of admins and examiners, a budget stat such as total applications received, approved, denied, and withdrawn. I wonder what a $200 tax for each item covers and if the department is has a profit, loss, or breaks even.

One more thought: with the freedom of information act, I'd bet I could submit a formal request for names, salaries, and the departments financials and they'd get it all to me. How long would it take is the real question.

A lot of ^that^ isn’t even done by the examiners. All the payment stuff is handled by a vendor before the ATF gets the forms. There are also contract research assistants that do a lot of the grunt work. The reality is it’s the intentional backlog they allow to exist.

>90% of your wait time is literally just a wait.

For example, my Turbo K had the check cashed 5/28/19. BGC has already been done. There’s no trust to look at because it sent in a Certification saying it hasn’t changed since the last stamp.

So, it’ll sit there for at least the rest of 2019 with nothing to be done other than make sure the SN/FFL info is valid, slap a stamp on it, and stick it in the mail. :(

Wait time on eform1 SBR individual? I see nothing on NFA Tracker unless I’m reading it wrong.
Just saw one approved in 11 days. (SBR & individual don’t really matter).

Most are in the 20-30 day range recently.

I must've had my numbers wrong.

Called earlier and Daphne, pretty sounding young lady, said I was at 10 months, the timeline for Paper Form 4's had been extended and I should call back in 30 days.

Ohh Daphne is still working there... well that's one plus. She's my good luck charm, anytime I've talked to her I've gotten the approved message.

Finally talked to my examiner via email... apparently there was a "signature problem" he told me there was nothing for me to do he was just waiting on the dealer to mail a form back...

I also wanted to clarify I used The Silencer Shop Form 4 Generator. It puts the scannable bar code on the form. It supposedly makes the process easier and quicker in entering the information after the NFA office gets the paperwork.

Well I just made my very first purchase with @TARHEELSTATE it was a great experience and much smoother than I feared it would be. Now to start my wait and to try not to think about waiting on my toys to come in.
Ummm...you're missing some details here. :p

Oh like what I bought and waiting on?
Griffin rev 44 and TBAC 22 takedown paperwork to be in the mail tomorrow.
Oooh...

That means we have a friend in common, since I got a text today that said “my friend Xxxx bought the Rev 45 and TBAC 22”. :D

...although a Rev 44 would probably be more entertaining.

Scott and his wife are first class! Now just forget about it for 9-12 months lol
