Post-41F NFA Stamp Tracking thread

I decided to check on mine today. I usually just get told "pending" or "approved." Today, the lady says, "Looks like we're just waiting on the background check to come back."

I stammered for a second and then thanked her for her time. Lol.

Apparently there has been some big ordeal about the FBI dragging their feet on background checks.

That is a normal response and nothing to worry about.

Approved forms that were mailed in last Sept, Oct and Nov are currently arriving approved.
We do have some poor bastards that are still waiting from as far back as Feb 2017 mail in date.
Back ground checks seem to be the biggest hold up for the applications taking more than 6 months.

That was the response I got the last couple times I called.

Even though it may be the same people they've checked over and over and over......

Sigh.

One of mine should be coming up in your mail before too terribly long, Scott!

Say an individual submits 3 form 4's or 1's at the same time using same tax stamp check, one would think that 1 back ground check would cover those
3 applications, nope, 3 applications at same time, 3 back ground checks requested from the FBI. Does not make too much sense but that is the way
it is being done.

I don't see why they can't do something similar to a NC ccp. Go through the process initially then you get a NFA permit good for "x" amount of years.

As much as I don't like the idea, I like it.

I've been calling every other week. LOL....
In all seriousness...why?

You know it's in the system. When it's approved, it'll show up.

I call once, about two months after I mail it, just to make sure they have it (since check cashing doesn't confirm that fact)...and then just let it surprise me when I go to the mailbox or @TARHEELSTATE calls/texts.

When you see people receiving submissions two months newer than yours getting approved, you start to wonder I guess

In all seriousness...why?

A) Because I can.
2) It kills a few minutes at work talking to people on the phone.
And lastly, if I find out it's approved on a thursday or friday, I can contact my dealer and possibly plan my two hour round trip to pick it up that weekend without waiting on him to notify me.

If I was tripping over suppressors, then yeah, I would be totally non-chalant about it. The rest of us may be a little more eager.

(To start, yes I'm aware you're free to call every day if you want...I'm just asking questions for my own curiosity)

You'd start a two hour round trip without confirming the dealer had the approved form?

I've seen many forms not even get postmarked for 2-4 weeks after approval...that's why I ask.

...and (to me) it's not about already having items. It's just that since there's zero rhyme or reason to the order they're approved, I'm not gonna bother with calling. There's easily a 4-month spread in approvals these days, and some are taking even 6+ months more than others. It's nuts.

The trip isn't contingent on the dealer having the approved form. It would be planned around the approval. Since weekends are the most convenient time for me to travel, if I find out on a Thursday or Friday that's it's been approved, I can try to plan to travel on Saturday.

As giddy as I am about receiving these items, if he were to contact me on a Monday saying he had my stamp, it would be a rough week. Lol.

I saw another 12/17 form 4 today.

I'm 12/6 and 12/26. Fingers crossed I don't have to watch my month go by and not hear anything

I checked Friday and was told "It just looks we're waiting on the background check to come back from the FBI."
