There's a ton of info to read out there, so I'm really just venting....I can't get my stupid powder funnel adjusted to give me enough bell on the case to stop stripping the powder coat off my 300BLK cast boolits!

grrrrrrr...........It's been a few years since I've loaded for 300BLK and can't remember what I had to do to make it work. I'm using a "C" funnel. Have tried 2 different "C" funnels even. Both of them crush the case instead of flaring the mouth.

Anybody have ideas?

Check to make sure the shellplate is not loose. If it isn’t screwed down enough, the cases will rock slightly and cause that. I tighten down the screw until snug and then back off 1/8 turn.

I havent had that happen and dunno what the "C funnel is. If'n I recall, when I called Dillon ~8 years back, they said to use the 7.62x39 powder funnel. I can check when I get home this eve.

I'll give that a whirl.

I believe that's recommended for jacketed bullets, not cast. If I recall, the 7.62x39 works on the 'outside' of the case mouth instead of flaring.

I'm pretty sure it does. I've yet to try cast 300BLK, now I'm waiting to see the fix so I'll know what part to order. I recently came across a good lead supply.

Have you asked your mother’s husband?

I seem to recall there being some conflicting info about which powder funnel worked best, think I ended up with the 30 carbine expander, but not 100% and am away from everything.

I usually get that clip on the case mouth when I'm not fully indexed into the next position. For me it happens from rushing. Maybe it's loose shell plate like @Toprudder said. One thing I did to help with that is get the roller bearing upgrade.

I avoid the issue because I size all my brass and have it ready to go when I load. That way, I put in the Lee expanding die in position 1 on the 550 and bell it to what I need before it goes to the powder drop.

I love this thread!

"My Dillon's wonky"

"Here, this Lee gizmo will fix it"

:)

Yeah, you could take it that way- but the powder drop in Dillon is really made for pistol bullets to bell them. I do this for my 9mm using Dillon's tool, no need for help. Meanwhile, Lee has a great cheap expanding die- I don't know if Dillon has one or not, but that's what I did for my solution. I could have substituted anyone's expander die.

Meanwhile, I love my Lee turret, which sits on the other side of the reloading bench.

I do the same. Since I size off the press. I run an expander in the first position which imo is a little more consistent than relying on the funnel.

My brass is all processed (sized, trimmed, chamfered, etc) before I introduce it to the Dillon. Same as you, I put the Dillon "universal expander" (really doesn't expand, just flares) in station one for when I am loading flat based bullets. I found out that with the expander just barely touching the case mouth, I get better consistency with boat tail bullets as well.
