Practice Thread

Exactly how I do it. My serrations go a little further back but the grab is the same. Also good for failures because it puts the port right at your eye so you can quickly see a double feed. Curious as well what @Ben B is doing.

I feel like you use way less thumb and more just the meat of the thumb web.
Doing slomo of it today if I stop by, heh.

Perhaps. Having a bit more slide real estate with the 2011 doesn’t hurt as you’ve mentioned in the past. You CZ guys have a lot less surface area to grab onto. That’s the only downside of the CZ/tanfo inner riding slide imo.

My problem with that is that the pistol goes in front of your support hand so you have a lot more movement to get your grip after chambering a round.
I've tried both. Timer showed no difference for me.

Curiosity.
What is y'all's dryfire par time for an unloaded start?

I'm at a consistent 1.4sec. For comparison I'm at .9sec loaded.

Pretty much. Seen more unloaded starts in the last year then in the prior 4.

If I gotta draw, I will find a way to make the pcc guys “draw”.

None of this established grips and damn near perfect sight pictures to start.

Unloaded table start are equal across the board. ;)

@Ben B how do you do it?

Pretty much exactly the same way: https://www.instagram.com/p/BdwU264AXOU/

Only slight difference might be I really try to make sure I roll the gun over enough so that I can get a good strong rack. Inducing a double feed first thing on a stage is not worth trying to shave a tenth and rotate the gun a little less. You've got plenty of time to get it back upright while you move the relatively short but still significant distance to get your weak hand on the gun.

Edit 1: Watching your slomo and mine though I notice how much the right hand thumb gets in the way and has to be repositioned. Keeping it high from the start and not having to get it out of the way after the rack has to be worth a tenth at least.

Edit 2: Yeah, just played with it some more. Thumb high for sure. Makes the "push forward with the right hand" part of the rack stronger too. Something else to practice. Sweet.

It’s interesting that you mention rolling the pistol more, as I noticed myself doing just that in practice earlier this week. Consistency increased with that slight tweak.

Broke out the shield for someone dryfire. Not as bad as I thought it be. Of course going to the 2011 right after was weird.

Practiced transitions, draws at odd angles(to find the dot), and mag changes. I was really practicing transition pace changes. I have noticed that if I have a stage with difficult targets and easy targets I usually shoot all the targets at the slower pace and want to correct that. I shot 2 body and 2 head before my transition and had a couple of tuxedo's in the mix of 6 targets. My right forearm is burning but I was able to slow down and speed back up seamlessly after 30 minutes of dry fire. Now I just need to continue doing it every day

Stepping up the dryfire.

When I first started dryfire I felt I had some almost instant gains, haven't felt any gains lately.

Anyway, gonna do two sessions a day 15-20 minutes or so four or five days a week. Focus on movement stuff in the morning, then stand and shoot, draws, transitions, reloads and whatnot in the evening.

Live fire I think I'm gonna wear out blake drills. I find I do everything (draw, split, and transition) stupid slow live and this seems like a good one to push speed on for the shooting part. Get happy with that and I'll start stressing entries and exits.

Went to the range, didn't even shoot 60 rounds, the wind was cutting right through me.
Feeling pretty good about what I did though, dry fire may be helping.

Fastest Bill drill I've ever done, only one I ran today, downright pedestrian to some of you I'm sure but 2.31 all As at 7yds, beats my previous best by .4, and my normal by a lot.
Blake at 7 hanging in the 2.3s with a best of 2.22 with 2 real close Cs, transitions right at .31 pretty consistent, I think I can get those down some, splits were running .17 could possibly trim but not too worried about them.
Draws were between 1.01 and 1.1 which is a pretty substantial gain for me, of course typically a person only draws once, but the slow point in mine has been deciding the sight picture is acceptable, which is something one does many times in a match.

Tried some live fire tonight with the edge...made it through half a mag of FTEs before realizing the extractor is shit. Previous owner could have given me a heads up D:

Got it adjusted when I got home but it's worn so I've got a new one on order. Will try some live fire again during the week. Aside from that gun shoots sweet can't wait to run it in some matches.

Also dryfired my PCC for about an hour. Focus on unloaded starts and reloads. Last classifier I ran was .5% off M. Hoping to keep up the moment at this weekends match, two classifiers.

How's the holster working out?

@NKD
Going back to the “ how do you rack the slide question”

I couldnt figure out why I couldnt use the front serations, and I believe its because the slide is thinner than the frame.

Definitely harder than a 2011 or most other guns.

I still use them, just a bit more of a pinch than just the web of thumb.
