Price of Ammunition GOING UP - NewsMax Article

Yeah, I trust Sam at SGammo more than some news aggregate service. I literally got this email yesterday from someone who buys tractor trailer loads of ammo on the weekly.

"
Below is a list of bulk ammo options that I thought were great values. We are living it times of great availability and excellent pricing on ammunition, but rising metal prices do pose a threat to push up on prices in the next few months. It would be a wise time to take advantage of price and availability on certain items so check out the great deals on the ammo listed below. Also keep in mind that while we mostly advertise bulk ammo options we also have a wide selection of ammo by the individual box and many other calibers available as well that are too various to list in the newsletter. With ammo prices at a 10 to 12 year low on many calibers there are so many bargains to be had right now. We also expect lots of great deals yet to come, so stay subscribed for future SGAmmo newsletters. If you have some spare time please take a few minutes and look over the online catalog at www.SGAmmo.com.

Two issues are discussed in the article: (1) ammo prices are increasing due to rising costs of raw materials, and; (2) ammo sales dropped in 2017 compared to 2016.

The price issue is straightforward - "Commodity pressure led to the increase, Metz said."

The sales issue has also been discussed; there was a lot of panic buying and stockpiling in 2016 until Hillary was knocked out of her campaign to be elected Ms Gun Control.

Vista may have raised it's prices, and then offered rebates lol. I just got a $50 rebate from a case of AE223 that I purchased at the end of December. I'm not gonna buy any AE223 for a while, so they can
raise prices all they want to.

Meanwhile every Walmart shelf in America is nearly overflowing with ammo, and Natchez/Midsouth/Brownells/Cabelas/Academy are sending me daily spam begging me to buy more ammo with free shipping.

Well I'm not going to go hunting down any Walmart employees for an hour to buy a box of ammo so...

Focusing on brass-cased ammo -- The prevailing prices for .45ACP and .223/5.56 55gr ball have been stagnant at about .25/.27 a round for almost two years (and that's mostly for re-man). Watching the prices on gun.deals (and the other popular engines) fluctuate up and down (mostly up) from day to day is maddening when prices come out at .30 or higher for M193 55gr. Ridiculous. Meanwhile, .22LR has come down nicely out of the stratosphere to around .03-.04/round for 36-40gr ball, and is plentiful again. I'm a recreational shooter and I don't re-load so getting great pricing on what I shoot is important. If my pain threshold is reached, I won't spend the money, and it's been very painful these last few years so not much shooting happening.

The recent deal in the IMI .223 at Midwest at .24/round was very nice, but rare. Until the cheap steel-cased stuff drops further (currently running at .21-.23/round), I think the brass-cased .223/5.56 ammo will remain stupidly high in the .27-.30/round range.

I love me some free shipping.
Up here...we don't have Bass Pro, Cabela's, Gander Mtn, Academy, none of those gi-ant sporting goods stores. We got Dicks, Field & Stream, and Wal Mart. Of course we have some lgs also, but nothing like Fuquay Gun & Gold or Hyatts for example. You can measure our lgs retail square-footage in the hundreds.
Now I know them big-time stores don't always equal a deal. But the point is, we don't have a lot of options. Having it dropped at your door is worth a few pennies, as lots of us are an hour away from anything. So we have become masters at 'net shopping, but the deal must always include no tax and free shipping.

We need the World Famous JV POTUS BHO to help keep prices low and more rebates!

I like Sam and sgammo but what would rising metal costs have to do with 1970s surplus from Malaysia? Lol.

Simple. Surplus prices are affected by the price of current production ammo. If current production ammo costs X, then the market will bear some fraction of X for surplus Ammo. Rising prices of current production ammo means the market will bear a higher price for surplus, too.

To me looks like they are banking on fud for a marketing tool.

Fear
Uncertainty
Doubt

Just my take plenty out there without market going crazy yet.

I tend to doubt anything from Newsmax. As soon as I clicked on the article, the headline directly above was about " DON'T CLICK ON THAT
NKorea In Panic - US Army Reveals Secret Weapon "
Which redirected to an ad website.

It seems to me, if I was a ammo seller that wanted to make more money, and was a piece of utter scum...I would pay to put this article on a right leaning conspiracy site right after a shooting, and hope it makes a panic.

yes, i just posted the same thing a earlier post did.
quote:
In an earnings call held last week, Chief Executive Officer Chris Metz told investors that the company first increased the price of ammunition in early January. A second price increase will come in April, he added. Both boosts in price were “in the low- to mid-single digits.” Vista owns Federal Premium Ammunition, CCI, Estate Cartridge, and Force on Force, among other shooting-sports and outdoor product companies. Commodity pressure led to the increase, Metz said.

I’m sure the prices will go up. I got an email at work the other day to expect steel plate prices to be almost double what they were this time last year. I’m sure everything else has also gone up with steel.

They were counting on the windfall Hillary was 96% certain to bring.
