New to NC and would like to sell a couple of my military bolt action rifles to fund a safe purchase. What are the state laws governing private party sales of long arms? I have a C&R but won't necessarily be selling to another C&R holder.

Thanks

Ask them if they are legally prevented from possessing a firearm, that's about it. <--technically, don't really even need to do that

For pistols, you need to see a pistol purchase permit or a CCW, and they need to be 21 or over to buy from an FFL(18-20 can buy from private). No such restrictions for long guns.

The requirement of obtaining a permit prior to the receipt of a handgun does not apply to the purchase and receipt of "long guns," such as shotguns and rifles.

I am assuming these are logged in your C&R book so do not forget you're going to need a drivers license and address for your records.

Three that I may let go: Remington 03A3, Springfield 03, #5 'jungle carbine' . I rarely shoot them these days and they are just taking up room. I may keep one of the .30 rifles so I'll decide and post them on the 'For Sale' page when ready. I'm going to sell off the HXP .30 ball and LC .30 match that I have also. I had rotator cuff surgery recently and shooting the heavy recoilers doesn't sound like much fun any more.

As a NC resident you can sell a long gun directly or via intrastate mail to any other law abiding NC resident 18 years or older. No permit, paperwork, record keeping, background check or approval is required by the State.
Not so for pistols or residents of other states..

As already stated, in NC for long arms the only requirement says that you cannot knowingly sell a long arm to someone who is forbidden from possessing one in this state. So as long as you don't know that they are a felon or a resident of another state then you take the payment and hand them the firearm. No bill of sale is required or anything else.

Your C&R rules are different as you will need to record the sale there.
