I created a thread a little while back about which Chrono I should get and the new CE Prochrono DLX w built in Bluetooth seemed like the best bet for my uses including pistols, rifles, and PCCs without braking the bank.

I went out to PHA, put the chrono on top of a folding sawhorse and placed a bungie over the top to hold it to the horse. I sat about 12ft behind the chrono and fired everything from a table being VERY careful not to shoot my brand new toy but also keep the rounds only about 6” over it.

The app really makes this stupid easy! You set up shot profiles, provide bullet weight, and it will gather temp and barometric pressure using your phone’s GPS. Select the shot profile you want to use and begin firing. The app calls out the velocity for each shot, stop whenever you’re done and switch to a new profile. No need to go touch the chrono to reset anything.

It shows the highlights of each shot in real-time with last shot remaining in bold at the top.

If you want some more stats like average, spread, SD, etc, just click the calculator and there you go.

If you have a bad reading, which I got a couple times as the clouds began to come in and I wasn’t using the diffusers, it’s a piece of cake to delete those shots immediately or later. One time I forgot to switch shot profiles so I had a shot on the wrong profile, it doesn’t let you move it to the correct profile so I had to just delete it. That’s really my biggest complaint.

It uses a 9v battery and has a space for storage of a spare in the battery compartment. Nice little touch. All in all, I’m very please with it so far and certainly have no complaint for the $104 I paid from Brownells after coupons!

Let me know if you guys have any questions or tips for a noob.

I used to shoot pistol offhand when I was using my chrono (Caldwell). One day I pulled a shot, knew immediately that I had pulled it, and was just sure that I was going to look down and see that I had hit my chrono. I did not - I was lucky! I decided then that I was never going to shoot offhand across my chrono again. I use a pistol rest now, so that it is virtually impossible for me to pull a shot, and I also get a better indication of the true accuracy of the loads since I am taking myself out of the equation as much as possible (without buying a Ransom Rest). I also, whenever possible, use a rail mounted laser on my pistols, with the aim point a couple of inches below the expected POI - so that I don't shoot away my aim point.

I've put over a thousand shot groups across my Caldwell now, and have not hit it - yet.

Good call on using a rest for pistols. I was very concerned about putting a round through my new $100 toy, considered putting a small 6” steel play in front of it haha.

I forgot to mention that the app also allows you to save a picture to each profile. I’ve decided to add a picture of my groups.

if you do happen to shoot one of the diffuser rods, Ace Hardware sells similar metal rods that can be cut to length for less money than buying replacements from CE. Just sayin'
