It’s not often that I can’t figure something out by perusing google, but I have not been able to find a good solution.

I have a hornady AP press, have loaded a few thousand rounds of various cartridges through it, now I’m starting to load flat base projectiles (such as the hornady vmax) and because hornady doesn’t make a powder through expander for .223 (or for 7mm to my knowledge, may be wrong about this) I have to place them the bullet in manually rather than have my feed die for it.

There is probably a good reason for this, perhaps it would squash the shoulder. I read that chamfering the mouth helps but not to the degree that a few wouldn’t fall out. Is there any company that makes a PTX for .223?

I’m using all 5 spots for dies on my press, if I were to use something such as a Lyman M die if have to get a combination seat and crimp die and Id rather not do that. My goal is to reload cartridges simply by raising and lowering the ram. This is because I am lazy. Any suggestions?

Edit: in case it matters, I am using a 3d printed bullet feed die that operates like this pretty much. This is not exactly what I use but it’s close enough. Mine uses 2 ball bearings instead of just the one, and has springs to help return the inner sleeve back down, pushing in on the ball bearing.

I use a Lee universal expander to flare the case for flat base bullets. But, it is not a powder-thru die. It would probably require another station, which would not help you any.
