PSA AR-45 (no longer PSA specific)

Had a generous member give me four 13rd G21 mags with +2 extensions almost a year ago as I prepared for this build. They just sat around until earlier this week when I tried them in the lower. None of them would lock the bolt open, but the one empty factory mag I had handy would.

Ordered some extra power springs a couple days ago and got them today. Swapped them all out and now all mags appear to be activating the LRBHO feature of the QC10 lower.

This one is close to being done...

The upper is due back here today. The flush-fit direct thread mount for the 45K is due here today. Sights and optic are sitting here ready to go on, along with a small front grip to install and a red CH to swap in.

Only “work” that needs to be done is spray the barrel red. Let it dry for just a little bit and then it should be ready.

Got the two deliveries. I’m on my third attempt at spraying the barrel. Fingers crossed it works this time.

For those that don’t know, the Silencerco Octane (and Omega 9/45 K) series of silencers used this style of direct thread mount:

The Harvester silencer has the same thread pitch but a different style of direct thread adapter. They’re actually discontinuing the Octane style and transitioning to the Harvester style. I grabbed a Blackhawk! branded one for a steal from Joe Bob’s. The pin wrench for the Ospreys and Sakers fit the holes on these. This will let me tuck the can inside the rail another half inch or so.

There’s not a whole lot of barrel to worry about...but I think the red is gonna be a nice little detail.

Got home after being gone ~5 hours and couldn’t help taking a couple pics. You can see the color of the barrel and the end cap. I also had Nick engrave all the info that was lost when we cut down the barrel.

Final assembly tomorrow, but here are a couple previews for now.

Got it finished for now...a couple notes:

1. Barrel is ~5.5”
2. I don’t know what I was checking earlier, but handguard will not slide over silencer...the area over the barrel nut is too small of an ID
3. OAL is 26” with brace collapsed. This means nothing legally, just giving you an idea of size.
4. The anodizing paint is definitely more red than all the actual anodized parts.
5. The angled grip I bought doesn’t fit. I’d assumed the slots were Keymod, but they’re not. Nobody has the particular rail piece I need in stock...so that’s why it’s “done for now”. Might grab one and put a small fingerstop or something down the road.

The ever important Teflon tape:

Tried to get a shot of the sun hitting the barrel:

@bkv

Additional info for your question in the NFA pic thread. Another option is to use the paint I posted in this thread. It comes in red, blue and purple. It gives an anodized look if used on shiny metal. If you’re starting with a different surface, there’s a primer you can apply first. It’s rated to 550°F.

Can I go home after one shot? First shot in the shorter config, from 75’. And yes, that’s the one I was aiming at. :D

A couple notes from today...

The mags were really snug in the magwell. Especially the four with the +2 extensions. Took a decent amount of effort to get them inserted. But it also took a good tug to remove them when they were empty. Weird.

Not much luck on LRBHO actually working.

Tried both an 8oz and 10oz buffer, and couldn’t tell much difference. Not sure what I was supposed to notice?

I did try out some 26rd Korean mags I’d bought a couple years ago for my G21. They wouldn’t run more than two rounds without a jam in the Glock. One mag was full, one still had ~10 rounds from when I gave up on the Glock. They functioned perfectly fine today in the AR. A staggered 10 round string, and then a full 26-round dump as fast as I could pull the trigger. Hopefully they continue to perform with this platform.
