I just got my PSA upper and Lower put together. So full disclosure, I know very little about the M16/4 platform. I only have had 1 trip to the range with a friend's, and since then I've wanted one of my own. But the idea of using 9mm (The only caliber I currently reload for) really appeals to me as all my handguns are chambered in 9mm or .22. I initially was stuck between a JRC and Aero Survial Rifle, but each had a couple things I didn't quite care for so I never made the purchase. So, when PSA put their uppers and lowers on sale, I had a hard time turning down a complete carbine for $575 shipped.
I know enough to put the upper on the lower and mounted the peep sights.
I have a 9mm Laserlyte training round I have used in my handguns for dry-fire practice. I've had no issue with this round in my Glock43, Xdsc, XDm5.25, RIA1911, FNX9......I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it, with easily over 1000 trigger pulls in my xdsc and Glock alone.
So, I popped that bad boy in the tube and closed the bolt to dryfire in the new AR-9.......
Click,
No light..
I release the back takedown pin and pull the bolt/charging handle out and press the plunger and the laser shines through the barrel, so I know the round is functional....
Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Are you not supposed to dry-fire this weapon type?
Is the firing pin not making it to the plunger for some reason?

I understand I have not given alot of info, but I really don't know enough about the platform to give any more, I will gladly answer any questions to the best of my ability. I'll also try to post photo of the "round" in the barrel as my only thought is that maybe the way it seats in the barrel is causing the bolt to not seat close enough to the barrel for the firing pin to strike the plunger?
If I can't use the "round" in this weapon, no biggie, but it does make for nice presentation/reloading drills and thought I could use this guy at home.

Thanks,
Rod

Here you go. I took a pic for you. The first one is the correct way to insert the BCG & the second is the incorrect way. I hope this helps.

Hmmm... never seen one like that before. I'd take it apart & make sure it's lubed & that the firing pin is not stuck. Other than that I'd call PSA. Just an FYI: I've had numerous problems with their normal BCG's.

The bolts in 9mm ARs are not like the ones for 5.56. There are no locking lugs, it has to be gas operated for that, and the 9mm ARs (at least the ones I know about) are all blow-back designs.
