Been lurking around the AR section and have been wanting an AR. I will not be shooting it much since I don't do competition, just something fun to mess with. How would something like this do to start off with along with some basic sights? Most of my shooting is indoors with occasional outdoor sessions. When I start to hunt again, would like to go to 300 blackout since the longest shot here in the lowcountry is maybe 100 yards.

I am lucky enough to have a store right up the road from me.

Both of those are lowers. The lower should be good to go. PSA is a decent manufacturer. For what it sounds like your needs are, you should be fine with the PSA.

Thanks for the feedback, I added the correct upper in the original post.

I have 3 PSA ARs, one that started life as a Premium M4 that has been upgraded to be exactly the rifle I wanted, it has many thousands of rounds through it and it still shoots about the same groups it did when new, I’ve shot a few thousands of wolf and Tula through it with no ill effects and the only thing I’ve “had” to replace has been the buffer spring, everything else has been an improvement such as a nice trigger, KMR handguard, adjustable gas block etc.

I have a 308 and a 7 1/2” 300 blk pistol and they are both fairly new but both have functioned 100% so far.

I am a PSA fanboy and I’ll readily admit it, imo for the price it is very hard to find a better entry level to upper mid range AR, they will never be on the same level as BCM, BPM or even Spikes, but you can certainly have a very reliable AR with PSA.

The best advice I can offer about PSA is to stay away from the older PTAC line and try to make sure you get the FN premium barrel, those barrels will not shoot 1/2” groups but they will last probably longer than anything else in the same price range.

They usually have higher prices instore. I would just order online free shipping on most good uppers and many lowers

Ordered a upper and lower labor day weekend. Got the upper Wednesday after labor day. Lower will be delivered to Mt. Pleasant store, but still haven't shipped yet.

Sometimes after holidays/sales, PSA’s shipping times suffer. They’ve improved quite a bit though, and you’ll get it fairly quickly. Their shipping times have improved drastically over the last few years.

Got the call today that the lower is in and will pick up Saturday.

Besides ammo, mags, case, and 5.56 bore brush/swage, any other recommended accessories?

Nice deal on that upper! Unless you have an optic sitting idle I'd say that's your next accessory.

Don't be afraid to ask the staff if they'll match the online prices, they've done it for me several times. I cleaned house at the Mt.P store over the summer with their 50% off all reloading items sale.

Silencer. Always the best accessory. :p

That is good to know. I was eyeing the soft case that came 7 or 8 pmags. That deal might be over with though.

Shooting a suppressed ar from a Sig rep was what pushed me over the edge. A silencer and a 300 upper is definitely in my future plans. But first I need to get some practice with cheap ammo.

Got the lower today, 1oo rounds, case, and two pmags today. As soon as I get a break, I am going to give it a good cleaning and break it in. I am not familiar with platform, but I am impressed with trigger, no take up and clean break. Reminds me of a nice bolt action, or any single action trigger.

You chose well! The rifle length gas system on an 18" upper is soft shooting, easy on the gun, and gives an excellent recoil impulse. It's one step up from rimfire lol. I took a young lady from Germany shooting with us, and she graduated from shooting cloverleafs with my 10-22 to cloverleafs with my rifle-gas 18" AR in about 30 minutes.

Also, the nickel coated EPT is one of the, if not THE best stock-type AR trigger under $100. It's smooth, fairly crisp, good break and excellent reset.
But as always, there's a way to make it a bit better for around $10-15:

Now go and buy you some cheap brass cased ammo and try to wear out that nitride barrel ;)

Not sure if you have ever been to Twin Ponds rifle range on the Marion NF, but it's worth a trip there IMO. You have good choice of ranges in Charleston though, but I like being outdoors with an AR.

Got to try the gun out today during my lunch break and it ran great. I am going to be lurking for a bit as I have fun with it and figure out what do next. Leaning towards saving up for a can.

I haven't been to twin ponds since they have redone it. Had to give up on the place years ago due to the stupidity. I definitely want to check it out now that they have a ranger there.

Do the empty pmags drop from the mag well when you push the mag release button? Or do you have to manually pull them out?

Nice rifle. Btw flip your front sight around.

Dang it, just when I thought I was an operator too. . . I got called out while at the range on that, it has been flipped. Thanks for looking out. I have lot to learn.

@Longrange while practicing with no ammo, it does drop free. Next time I am live firing, I will see how well it drops.
