PTSD ?

Do you see something that you think is moving this direction, or just a general concern?

There is a mental health check for a NC CHP, and used to be one for a PPP, but that seems limited to mental health facilities and not to DOD admin records. I don’t know what is required to maintain the disability rating, so maybe some services/treatment/diagnosis would create a problem but I haven’t heard of it happening.

Certainly not something I’d be concerned about even if I were in that situation.

Well,
Red Flag laws and such.

I think the PTSD / gun rights are being tied together, but no proof of it right now.

Given that its at the discretion of the sheriff issuing the permit, yes, I would be concerned. Not to say that it couldn't be appealed, but depending on where you live, they're just looking for a reason.

Do we still have a live constitutional carry bill in the NC legislature? That’s eliminate the concern as long as you pass the NICS check.

constitutional carry does me very little good as I live on the NC/VA border I will keep my CHL just for that reason. I need to start looking into a PTSD claim. As I have gotten older I have dreams about the flightdeck and the accident I was there for I dont sleep very well

iirc there is a separate process va goes through for what you're concerned about (similar to being rated as incompetent by va)

ptsd ratings (there are many reasons one could be given this rating now-a-days), in and of themselves (that ive seen) dont come into play for ownership denial

I think you’d have to have a 100% classification and some physician reporting that you are unable to handle your own finances or personal affairs for it to have any impact in
This is the answer. I have a 100% mental health rating (non-ptsd) among other ratings. The VA has to determine that you are incapable of managing your personal finances to push through a surrender of firearms.

I work in the firearms industry and have had NFA tax stamps approved after my 100% rating.

PTSD is not an issue today on gun ownership but who knows about what tomorrow will bring.
and that is the million dollar question. There seems to be a lot of politicians that think no ex military should be allowed to own firearms

I have PTSD. I’ve never sought to have it added to my VA records for this exact reason. I could be wrong but I’m going to error on the side of caution.

Me, too. Most people who have it don't go on ragers, either. I hate the stereotypes.
Same, on the rare occasions I have relapses/flashbacks it's more like a crippling depression/sadness than anger. Thankfully they are rare and short lived.
