Finally.........a NICE Smith wheelgun fell to me when I had the cash and was in the right spot and the right time.
Been wanting one of these badly since I shot Curt's 686 @BatteryOaksBilly 's place this past winter. It's every bit the shooter that his revolver was, but I needed a blued .357 S&W something bad. Of course, it's a no dash with no M so eventually it may need a trip to Springfield for the 'recall' but it will probably never see hot handloads. I have Ruger's for that type of nonsense. Probably shoot mild .357 loads with TG, and ALOT of 'rebate' 158gr .38SPL I got from PSA a few months ago

Anyhow, after her initial Ginger Rage calmed down, Mrs. Ikarus1 reluctantly gave her seal of approval after putting a few dozen rounds downrange. She likes wheelguns alot.

You have chosen wisely, be on the lookout for a second one, she may want this one all to herself. :)
Well what happened was..........I went to the LGS to help my nephew's dad to pick out a deer rifle......which we did, but this one called out to me like a siren...

I will probably look to replace those vintage Pachmayr's pretty soon, but they're acceptable on this gun. It's a real shooter after a quick dial-in adjustment to the sights.

You got a very nice one there.
I have the exact same gun.
No dash, no M.

IMO, the case hardened carbon steel lockwork of that gun (once broken in)
will give a better, smoother DA pull
Than most aftermarket kits will provide in a stainless new production gun.
A toothpick tip dab of brownells action grease applied to the correct locations will make that DA pull feel super consistent.

After use, be sure to wipe down under the side plate cover area of those grips.
That is a known area where sweat and corrosion grows with Pachys.

If you add presentation grips, that area is visable and it sucks to have an otherwise beautiful blue job show flaw.

Beautious!!!!!!

Nice pick up. I fondled that one the week before last when I was in there picking up a Takedown 10/22.

Which place? My LGS in Concord? I'm honestly surprised to see it because they have 2 or 3 guys that always get on stuff like this first. They must've been on vacation

Yes, it’s in an ideal location.

SWEET.

Can't decide if it is that or a Model 19 that is my favorite Smith. Be happy with either I guess.

Yeah man. I am a sucker for a 19 also, and haven't added that one to the stable either. They got EXPENSIVE quickly

That's a beautiful revolver right there. I'm a fan of S&W revolvers. Unfortunately, they can be so darned expensive. I have a 66 no dash and if I get a chance to add a 19, 586 or 686 no dash, I'll do it if it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Well that is true. However the same day I purchased this, I held a new Colt King Cobra....and for more money, that one gets a hard pass. It honestly felt like those cheap Rohm revolvers from the 60s....I was very disappointed. Maybe Colt should've stayed out of the game for good

Congrats !! Shoot the wheelguns all you can as often as possible. Those Pachs are classics and work, too !! I used them on all my carry guns for a lot of years. I liked the "gripper models" a lot.
