I have a Colt Police Positive Special that dates to ~1917 and with this vintage match coming up at PHA I got to thinking... Was the Colt PPS revolver ever issued as a Military sidearm? Google tells me all about how it was a very popular law enforcement weapon but nothing beyond that. I'm looking for a reference that says some branch or another carried these things so I can shoot a real antique at the match instead of having to bring a newer 1911.

Not that I'm aware. Lots of .38 revolvers saw military service, but I've never seen anything that indicates the PPS was one of them.

The only connection that I have seen verified with respect to a .38 Spl Colt revolver, was the issuance of a parkerized Colt Official Police w/ brown plastic grips being issued to civilian armed security at various plants here in CONUS that were supporting the war effort during WW2.

I recall reading where US Counter Intel & OSS bought about 50,000 of the Commando and the 2" Dick Special.

Like this one, I believe they were marketed under the name Colt Commando....They may have also been issued to allied countries under the "Lend/Lease" program.
It should be noted that the OP was a larger frame than the PP as it was a newer version of the Army Special. The PP was made specifically for the .38 and .32 long, IIRC.

That's consistent with what I found as well. Models before and after saw service but not this one. Thanks for the feedback
