Were you ever anywhere that received cookies from the Girl Scouts or popcorn from the Boy Scouts?

Just wondering if those donations actually get to the troops.

Yep, Girl Scout cookies in Afghanistan.

If they get sent to the right people yes. Otherwise the fobbits will horde em all. Had to dam near fight a guy in Iraq for a box of the Do-si-dos. Also, if you want to send really usefull stuff send LOTS of Copenhagen! Just take a flat rate box and fill it with cans of Cope! It will be much more appreciated.

And better than money

Yep, have 4 trips to Iraq and Afghanistan and I remember seeing them every time. Even got them on some really remote FOBs.

Oh and Copenhagen would have been much better.....

Had someone at church collecting jerky to send to soldiers, how does that rate vs cookies and chew?

I have seen GS cookies before, but a lot of times the good stuff would get diverted before we would get close to it and all that’s left would be like pens/pencils and paper for letter writing, and generic hygiene items like small bars of soap, tooth brushes etc

Soldiers would like it, but Sailors and Marines prefer good stateside Copenhagen... lol

Seen plenty of GS cookies, never any BSA popcorn however. Lots of guys/girls dip or chew. I'm in the minority here on that but I do keep a 20mm can of empty water bottles for the dippers in the weapons repair shop. Just remember don't send CHOCOLATE in the summer months to HOT areas! And thank you supporters.

CD

Like CD said, GS cookies but never BSA popcorn.

Anyone else remember way back getting "sundry" packs during deployments? REMFs would always pilfer through them and take the rolls of cope and boxes of marlborough's and camels and leave the shit stuff. No GS cookies back then...

Around 1987, my ship, USS Saratoga, had a reporter taking a photo of flight ops. The pilot, just before launching, spontaneously held up a sign "send cookies". It got published world wide. We received enough cookies to sink that aircraft carrier. Individuals baked them, the scouts sent them, and I remember Food Lion sent entire pallets of them.
