Ok, Im watching Battle:Los Angeles while eating an early dinner, and in one part the main guy has a rubber band around his wrist, over his gloves.
Anyone actually carry random things like that on them in combat or on patrol?

Secondly -how messed up do your legs get during training or combat?
I dont mean shot or stabbed, but if youre running and slide into an area for cover/protection, then you much skin yourself up quite good, right?
I figure you learn those sorts of things in training, right? So, Im assuming, that all vets (as well as those enlisted) had to go through this.

Please, tear the movie apart if you wish, just wanted to know how realistic it was and how sore you'd be after doing some of these things in movies

Not to sound crazy or smart ass here.

In all professional works you have different levels of knowledge. Sometimes shown by rank or time in the workplace. The rubber band you bring up is a example of a individual effort. A Marine, Soldier thinks it was a good idea because of X reason.

Just because PVT Snuffy thinks its a good idea does not make it so. Same coin, it might be the best ever idea. Each service person is a individual professional.

Sliding on the ground with pants on is a universal experience. Same in Iraq as in Cary.

I would not put any value in movies as a basis for military observation.

I saw one of the late night shows where Aaron Ekhart was talking about that movie saying they had real marine technical advisors to train them. They would jump him if he said "Chopper" rather than "helo"

Okay so I’m watching this now to remind myself of more than just the plot

They just blamed the newest, greenest guy in the platoon for getting separated from the unit while in running and gunning combat.

That was waaaaaay not the way it’s done. It’s the team leader’s job to keep up with the boots, to do headcounts of the team, then the Squad leader checks the team leaders etc etc and each echelon passes their status up and up and up. But they definitely shouldn’t be moving that far without solid accountability

A couple things. It was a sci-fi movie, so there's that. Also it was a movie, and no movies with the military are 100% accurate.

That said, it was generally pretty accurate. To @11B CIB point, there were some leadership fails. But to @J R Green point, the language was good. The language was not potty-mouth enough, though. A real platoon was have turned that movie rated X. I can imagine the discussion Marines would have about sexually exploiting that dead alien would have been lively.

The culture was accurate for a platoon, squad and platoon movements were generally correct, the way they wear their 782 gear was accurate, generally a good portrayal of a Marine platoon.

When they rammed the alien with the Humvee near the end and it sprayed that goo in the air force chick’s face the one Marine laughed and made a perfect “first date” joke. That was 100% on point

As far as uniforms, I know someone who has friends that work behind the scenes in movies and TV. Even in movies and TV it is still considered a crime, impersonating military personnel, if they have everything perfect so that's why there are little differences, some subtle, some blatantly obvious, especially to those of us who wore the uniform, but you know "Hollywood" isn't going to make a 100% accurate movie, you can't unless people actually get shot at first of all, 2nd: liberals.
