I finally have an area cleaned out where I can start reloading. I want to start out with a single stage press and have been looking on eaby for a used RCBS Rockchucker (heard good things). I came across this setup and it seemed like a decent buy but would like some input from experienced members before I pull the trigger

Sorry forgot to add link.

If you're on budget and a single stage is what you can afford then a used single stage is good.

If you have 100 bucks I recommend a lee classic turret because it can be a single stage and turret press too.

You can learn doing single stage then when you're ready to move on to a more progressive setup it's easy to switch.

Where are you located?

Too much money, not enough equipment. You'll be in that at 250.00 and if you shop Midway, Natchez and the other biggies you'll find a better value. You absolutely cannot go wrong with anything RCBS......

What's your location and how much do you want to spend? ( total set up )
What calibers are you looking to reload?
Much more equipment will be needed or at least wanted than just the bare press and powder measure.

You selected FedEx ground with hasmat. Usps is 14.95 to Wilmington
He may have been talking about the eBay shipping cost...which was $49.99.

(For the record, your link was dead for me as well).

To the OP, I opted for a Lee Loadmaster from Don for my first press, about six months ago.

I can get to your website if I stop the security certificate .

Now that I have , cookies are loaded and I jump right in.

Thanks for the input guys. I am looking to primarily reload 6.8 SPC, 45 LC and a little .308/.223. I may load some .40 if I see savings over buying in bulk. I will give you a shout shortly AP. Again thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys.

My personal opinion (for whatever it is worth) is that if you are planning to load ONLY rifle rounds, and not in large quantities, then a quality single stage is what you should probably go with. Lee probably has the best value, but don't get the cheap C press, and I would recommend the Classic Cast over the Challenger.

If you are going to mix in pistol rounds, then I would recommend getting the Lee Classic Turret (not the Value Turret). Works as single stage without the auto-index rod in place. If you get the press mounted powder drop (Auto Drum is good) and safety prime, then you can use the auto-index feature and crank out 200-250 rounds per hour. I have a Dillon 550 that I use for all my semi-auto pistol rounds, but I use a Classic Turret to load all my revolver and rifle ammo.

I do .380, .38, .357, 9mm and 45 on a Dillon 550 that is the only press I've ever owned (for 30+ years, it was from Dillion's first production run of that model), I highly recommend that press for straight walled pistol cartridges. Others say it is just as good for rifle, but I have no experience with it on bottleneck cases. If you don't need the length, the Dillion Square Deal is another great pick.

I can do 300 rds an hour, easily, when I am in practice (including setup and cleanup).

I like Dillon for the lifetime no BS warrantee, they still take care of me, no question, after all these years.
