Questions about a safe

You, a hand truck and one or two healthy dudes can move that one no problem. The need for a professional mover comes in when you start talking about 1000 lb + safes.

How about finding a landscaping crew working in your neighborhood and asking if they'd like to make $50 each for an hour's work?

I don't have a "neighborhood," in fact my neighbors are turkeys, deer, and apparently Bobcats who like to spray our cars... on top of that, I definitely don't want a bunch of unknowns in my house.

Haven't seen it mentioned but if you can get the door off it will be a lot easier to move. Probably a third of the weight of mine is in the door.

2 people with 3 or 4 pieces of 2 inch PVC can move a BIG safe once it's on a flat area. Put the PVC underneath and keep pushing and replacing PVC with the one in the rear. Really, it's surprising how easy it is. 800 pounder is a piece of cake.
That part I have covered, it's the in and out of the truck bed I gotta solve.

Ratcheting tie down straps are your friend. Make sure they are each rated for the weight.

Both as an adjustable safety line and as a way to pull it up stairs or into a truck bed. Use two to make sure. Alternating but never with a lot of slack in either. Can pull very large safe up a stairway fine. Certainly into a truck bed.

Tilt it onto tailgate on cardboard or a blanket (500 lb is no problem) strap it with both ratchet straps, pull it a foot or two and it will be in the bed. Slide it up to the cab and secure it. Done.

Taking the door off if you can makes it a LOT easier but DO NOT DROP THE DOOR ON YOUR TOES!!!! Seriously.

500 is not bad at all. I have done 600-750 lb safes several times with my 130 lb son and I am average strength at best. Leverage and going slow and safe are the keys to success.

sheet of plywood ripped to fit between the fenders of your truck bed, use it to sheild the safe from the bumper and slide both up into the bed simultanously.

I don't know how to take the door off one of these things. I hope for some enlightenment tomorrow. He did say I can have everything that's in the safe too, but it's empty ammo cans and plastic rifle cases, which I'm sure I can use.

Turns out one of the ladies in the office here knows someone with a moving company, and I may not even have to lift a finger, just give them $100 and I'm done! Crossing my fingers.

What was the difference in these random people vs other random people? Its still random people knowing you just bought a nice, big gun safe.

If you dont have A (ONE) healthy friend that could help you for half an hour of work I feel bad dude.

The door lifts off of the hinges. Be careful, there will probably be a washer on each that might get stuck to the door, dont want to lose it/them.

GET.
THE.
SAFE.

Those people are bonded and insured.

I was looking into how to remove the door on this one, but didn't find answers.

I'm headed to check it out today, and make sure there's no issues with it.

I have one of the same safe and one a little larger. Have moved both with a couple people and a harbor freight appliance dolly. I now have some equipment dolly's at work that make things easier. I moved that one myself when the family was out of town one weekend. Simple to roll it around with some 1/2" pipe or tubing under it as rollers.

I've made the offer before, if someone needs to borrow the dollies, let me know. I'm in Mint Hill and office is in Concord.shopping.jpg

Drakes are great. Nice fellow, and he delivers into the house.

I got a big one too since I'm considering getting a second gun someday.

like the idea of a safe inside a safe, good place to hide snacks

One in the kitchen,
bathroom,
living room,
two in the bedroom.

One in the car.

That's just getting started. He needs at least 6 more

Well the 6 are the ones i play with the most the rest will get piled in there on the top shelf

When I told him I may have to reschedule (the truck I was gonna borrow wouldn't run) he just said if I bring him $250 cash at 1pm it's mine. I was there at 12:50 in my wife's SUV. He's apparently moving, and has owned the safe since it was new, even gave me all the original paperwork.
I'm gonna have to add a light, shelves, and door pockets, but I'm happy with it.

How do you sleep at night after violating a man that way?

I bet pretty damned good lol.
Nice get...I kept watching this thread to see if you'd get everything figured out lol.

So, I have this safe inside a closet at the center of my house. My house is temperature and humidity controlled, and I've always kept my guns in my closet without issues, but should I still use desiccant or some other dehumidifier inside this safe? I have power run into it through a grommet in the back for lights, and I have outlets available if a dehumidifier is recommended?

I would run something. Either a dehumidifier (the crystal rechargeables are easy) or golden rod. I run both.

For me, inside the closet, nothing. Wipe down metal parts with oil , rack them in and shut The door.

Out in the garage with big swings in Temp over 24 hrs... Yes, goldenrod 24/7/365. Be sure there is a gap at the back of any shelving to keep the warm air circulation down to cold air to be rewarmed.

Well, apparently Cannon doesn't offer replacement keys in any way shape or form, so I guess I get to call a locksmith. I'll have them change the combo while I'm at it.
