I picked this up today for what I feel is a great deal.
This is the third AK pattern firearm, but the first I would like to make changes to.

My questions are in regards to changing the grip, adding a 'brace', and changing the hand guard.

Will the magpul AK grip fit this?

The plan is to SBR this down the road a bit. I'd like to put something on it and would like to place hold with a brace. How do I ad this to an AK? Does folding or fixed make a difference later?

I also would like to change the hand guard to something with a top rail or capability. Does the magpul fit, or is there another option?

Thanks in advance for the assistance and advice.

Yes. Any standard AK grip will fit.

US Machinegun and several other companies make adaptors that are held on by a plate under the pistol grip. I'm not sure about the trunnions on these but you may be able to drill and tap into the back and throw on a Stormwerkz adapter and folding mechanism with an AR pistol tube.
Folding or fixed is up to you. If you want to do it right, swapping out the rear trunnion is the way to go, but it's involved work if you haven't built AK's before.

I don't believe Magpul makes a Yugo pistol handguard. Manticore Arms has a "Renegade" handguard set with swappable uppers for Aimpoint Micro and Burris fastfire. You can probably google around and find some tacticool railed aluminum sets somewhere like Midwest Industries.

Both the 85 and 92 have Hogue AK grips and SB47 brace

Let me say something here about these AK pistols......there are many who heap abuse and ridicule on AR or AK pistols and call them useless toys. I say BS on that. These are devastatingly effective weapons and through down a hell of a lot of firepower in a small package. Don't go to your public range and shoulder the thing but if the SHTF you can do what ever you want with it and it makes a great "truck" weapon. I can ring steel all day long out to 150 yards easy with these guns.

Ultimak is another option for your handguard. I run one on one of my Yugos and couldn't be happier. You also get to keep the bottom handguard, if wood is your thing. Wood always looks good on AKs, IMHO.

I've got a Midwest Industries one I love on my SAR and it looks like they have their range for your Yugo too. If you are going to run an Aimpoint or other 30mm tube red-dot, I wholeheartedly endorse their top cover with built in rings, since you can co-witness with the iron sights.

This will run a PA micro dot on it.

Anyone know if the aluminum or plastic unit stays cooler?

Plastic is likely to be cooler, since it doesn't transmit heat as well as metal. I know the Ultimak I had for a while would brand you with Picatinny rail pattern if you dumped a couple of mags. Not as bad as a Mini 14 gas block, but still toasty.

Well, now my $400 AK is now an $800 AK, and will soon be an $1100 AK.

Added a Magpul grip, folding stock with shockwave blade, muzzle brake, and ALG AKT trigger.

Up next is the hand guard replacement and PA micro dot.

I like it! Looks like fun times. Maybe not for bystanders.
Tempted to do similar. Not sure about a brake on mine though.

I would have done the brake pictured in the original response, but it was out of stock, so I went with the two port.

My God is that one ugly space gun! I Like it!
