I started filling out the Sheriffs application for Henderson County NC.
I just want to know how they can expect us to remember all the places
we have lived since age 18.

They want the physical address , City, State, Country & Zip Code.
Really?? I am 66 & have lived in many places since age 18 but I'll
be damned if I can remember exactly where I lived in detail.

Is there any way to fill this application out???

I used four addresses and left a good 10-12 year gap. Told em I couldn't remember.
Got my CHP.
You'll be fine.

Thanks, I thought that the best I could remember was Towns, States & dates.

Zip codes & exact physical addresses will only be a guess at best.

Been at my current address for 32 years can't remember too far back than that LOL

If you’ve been at your address for 32 years unless your Sheriff and his staff are leaning liberal that time frame goes back more than enough. Even my Sheriff said 10 to 15 years is about it.

You would think that would be enough but when I called the Lady in charge she insisted that I must list
all the places I have lived since I was 18 years old. I have purchased many Pistol permits over the years
but have never seen questions like this before.

Until I read that there were others that also had problems remembering where they had lived for all the years
since their 18th birthday. I just thought this was another blocking attempt to keep us from getting our
carry permits.

I believed what they wanted to know was are you a felon or a nut case. Have you seen the paperwork
the Dr.s ask you for today? One question was have you ever sued a Dr before? I wonder how they will act if
you said yes? Maybe not take you as a patient. Makes you wonder.

I went back 10 years- it was a renewal anyway and I just said eff it. Of course they renewed it.

§ 14-415.13. Application for a permit; fingerprints.
(a)
A person shall apply to the sheriff of the county in which the person resides to obtain
a concealed handgun permit. The applicant shall submit to the sheriff all of the following:
(1)
An application, completed under oath, on a form provided by the she
riff, and such application form must be provided by the sheriff electronically. The
sheriff shall not request employment information, character affidavits,
additional background checks, photographs, or other information unless
specifically permitted by this Article.

When I applied to my CHP in Mecklenburg County in person I asked the person behind the counter about that question. She said just put down the last 3 or 4. That's all I did with rough dates and I had no problem. I imagine when you just make a phone call they will tell you the rules as they are written since they don't know who they are speaking with.

Addresses since I was 18?? Tell me it's a joke... I don't remember a year ago let alone 50 years ago. And if their so damned smart you tell me and see if I agree!!
Just because you ask don't mean I have to answer if I have no recollection. Want me to make up some crap??? I may not have a good memory but I got one hell of an imagination...

If they don't know already, they won't know if you didn't list some.

I found a couple of addresses for myself by either googling my name or looking on ancestry.com using my name. (I'm old, so I can't recall exactly how I found the addresses!) This was for my first pistol purchase permit in NC, but since I've been here over 20 years, I couldn't remember my old addresses. Luckily I wrote them down, so next time I needed to fill out a form, I was all set. I ended up with about 3 in all, and that was enough for my county, since I've now got my CC permit.

In a world without privacy it makes me wonder if all this is just a bunch of perjury traps.
Have you ever seen the info the Government has when they choose to show you?

I have decided to just put in ( I do not remember ) what I can remember & that should be enough.
It seems that we have some Rouge Sheriffs here in NC & that is a real problem that needs to be exposed.
Elections are just around the corner & these rogues need to be voted out for the good of Law Enforcement.

The funny/sad part of all of this is in a Country where the Government must prove you guilty. We must
jump through hoops & pay countless $$ to own a firearm to protect our Families & ourselves. Not the
America I learned about growing up at all.

Self defense is a God given right, no man can make this rule for any other Free American Citizen!

I've been in my house for 30 years. I just put down my current address. If they can't figure that out, what's the point of a background check?
