My wife brought her car into mechanic. 2008 audi. Thwy say its the front control arms, cost 1000. Does that sound on par for thus repair cost?

2008 audi a4 180k miles from what im googling for an audi it doesnt seem completely out of line.
Call a few other shops and ask. I would stay away from any Audi specific places as they always seem high.

There's 4 control arms on each side at the front IIRC, and they vary in price from $15 each to over $100 each, depending on what brand you get and which one you're replacing. IMO, they should all be replaced unless one of them has a specific issue (I.E. external damage).
You might be able to get a slightly better price on the labor rate somewhere else, but would be worth asking them what it would cost if you bought your own parts?

It sounds about right but you should ask for a breakdown for the parts. For control arms I would only use Audi factory parts. This is a great price to price out parts.
