R700 carbon fiber barrel torque

Hello

I have a R700 I got a few years ago. It shot great and then started throwing flyers. The freaking barrel was loose. I was able to remove by hand. It pissed me off so I have not messed with it in years.

How do you torque a carbon fiber barrel to the action?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well I got a wrench and a vise on order.

Never had a carbon fiber barrel and never installed one. Let us know how it works out. How many ft lbs are they torqued? What does the wrench look like?

I'd start by calling the barrel manufacturer, Brownells, and Christensen Arms for input.

Well I just clamped it down and tightened it down. Will update when I have the head space gages and can shot it.

I checked the head space, it was good. I shot it about 100 times. The barrel is still tight.

I did not use a torque wrench just a calibrated arm.

Keep that recoil lug inline with the action screws. Thats the hardest part of the process. When I install my barrels I used 90ft lbs FYI

The action wrench I used has a cut out for the recoil lug to keep it in the correct spot.

The barrel torque should be the same as any other barrel. curious to what you have? I’m a rem700 and a carbon fiber barrel fanatic

It is a r700 action that I had painted by MAGDUMP. Vortex viper 2.5-10. Carbon Barrell 308 1-10 twist. HS stock, timney trigger, Wyatt bottom metal.
