I signed up for a carbine course next weekend and it looks like its going to rain. Anyone have recommendations on what gear to bring for a rainy training day?
Ohh good point about optic cover. I'm running an eotech, should I worry about covering it? (I didn't take the housing off).Lens covers for your optic. Even a simple
Hand towel works in a pinch.
I wouldn’t worry too much about mags and guns getting wet. They’ll run just fine as long as you have them lubed.
I don’t like them, but a lot of guys will wear gloves like Mechanix Wear.
Yeah I'm going back and forth on a poncho. Def seems like something that will get in the way of my belt. I like the idea for the cloth for optic!! I'm running an eotech so having something to wipe it with will be useful.Extra socks and clothes for after. A poncho (if it doesn’t interfere with your gear).
A cloth for your optic like this maybe
Run the poncho under the belt. Profit.Yeah I'm going back and forth on a poncho. Def seems like something that will get in the way of my belt. I like the idea for the cloth for optic!! I'm running an eotech so having something to wipe it with will be useful.
Do you have too, no. But I would.Ohh good point about optic cover. I'm running an eotech, should I worry about covering it? (I didn't take the housing off).
What belt are you using, out of curiosity.Yeah I'm going back and forth on a poncho. Def seems like something that will get in the way of my belt. I like the idea for the cloth for optic!! I'm running an eotech so having something to wipe it with will be useful.
Trash bags!!! Ahh I always always always forget that! Inside of my car is always such a mess after my adventures.Lens covers - plastic Baggie over the whole optic in between stages with a rubber band if it has electronics inside
Lube your guns well beforehand
As far as personal gear I have a rain suit that consists of a pair of bib overalls and a hooded jacket - sometimes I’ll take the jacket off to shoot but overall this works
A big ziploc bag for a dry towel for your face and extra lens cloths
Dry clothes and shoes for after the match and a big garbage bag for all the wet muddy crap so it doesn’t trash the inside of you vehicle
This is my advice, as someone who has worked outside a lot during adverse conditions. My advise, is to bring a change of clothes.
I would just run the class as is, meaning dress as is, and after, change into clean clothes after the event. boots, socks, t-shirt, pants etc.
If you got a rain coat, that's form fitting go for it.
Appreciate the feedback! Yeah I figured at this point - just making it comfortable enough to keep the rain out of my eyes/optic clear so I can focus on the training aspect. The rest I'll just have to deal with. You do not need to keep an optic covered up. They can take a lot more abuse than rain. But a cloth to wipe it off every now and then, sure.
If you have a waterproof an anorak/pullover, that's great. If not, do not worry about it.
A good hat or boonie. Extra pair of clothes for afterward.
That's the kind of environment expression "embrace the suck" comes from.
EDIT: just looked at the dates and kept scrolling down and read the comments. My advise, is to bring a change of clothes.

Yeah my inner layers were kinda wet but to your point prob from a little bit of sweating. It was really cold yesterday.EDIT: just looked at the dates and kept scrolling down and read the comments.
This. Rain gear will keep you somewhat dry but you'll still get wet from sweating due to lack of breathability.
I'd just bring a dry outfit to change into afterwards. What class are you taking?
