Could anyone recommend a rifle range in the Raleigh area ? I have a new Ruger Scout I want to play with, but don’t need anything fancy. So ideally looking for something that offers daily walk-ins (not a membership, I’m $$$ limited) out to 100m max.

Thanks !

Yep, Wake Co. will work. That's is where I shoot rifles. You'll just have to go spend a 1/2 day and take their orientation/safety class to get your range card. Other than right before deer season it is usally not that busy on the 100' rifle line.

You might can catch a ride with oldbear in a couple weeks. He's coming to shoot for 3 days and stay in the Battery Oaks Bunkhouse. You're welcome and it's all free.

Yep, this is the best place for 100 yard rifles. But the class is only about 90 minutes, not a half day. It costs $15 for Wake County residents, $30 for non-Wake. And you get a coupon good for $2.00 off each of your first five visits. It's open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, plus Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The orientation sessions are held several times a month, usually on Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday. If you go to one of the Sat/Sun sessions, you can go right into the range after getting your card.

I have heard some say that they are strict or harsh, but I have always found them to be safe and helpful. I think it's a good place to take your family or new shooters. I'm in there quite often.

Regarding new shooters, I have to disagree. The concuss of shooting indoors is enough to make me flinch!
I would seek out an outdoor range for new shooters. Much less BOOM!

It is usually not bad, but I was next to a guy once with a ported Marlin 45-70 or 450 Marlin. That shook me a little the first few blasts.

I'm a member at Frontline Defense, outdoor range, they are open to the public on weekends, reasonable hourly rate.
Membership is also a bargain for all you get, 7 day a week access, discount on training classes.
Frontline Defense, it's worth the trip. About 1 hr 15 min from Raleigh via I-540 to 401 North.
If you show up with a member you can shoot for $30, only on weekends.

Thanks all for the feedback. I stopped by the Wake County Sheriff’s range this afternoon, they were running orientation classes which seemed like a good use of time on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Nothing fancy but will suit my needs for now.
