Raleigh folks: 0.750 dimpling jig

Hey man, can I borrow your .750 dimple jig? :D

I just measure and drill. Or make @OldSchool do it!

He has these, so you know he's gonna get er done.

Ha, I had the same issue last week. Put a piston kit on my 10.5 SBR. I though it would be fine just torquing down the set screws on the gas block and running with it. The Piston hammered the gas block off the front of the barrel. I ended up cheaping out and ordering this tool. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWQYBRH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It worked fine with the gas block as a guide. Also, Melonite is really freaking hard to drill.

I ordered the .750 SLR jig today for $37 shipped. I think it'll be worth it. I'll post a review when I get a chance to use it.

I simply place the gas block to be installed, snug one set screw. Use a smaller drill bit that fits in the threaded hole with 2 layers of elec tape around it and drill in 30-40 thousands. Repeat in second hole. Pull the block, use a larger bit, about the size of the threaded holes or + 1 size, dimple the barrel. Remember to keep the drill speed low.

I was going to use this method, but the jig is so cheap and allows you to configure for multiple screw placements, I decided to order it. As many guns as I plan on building for myself or friends in the future, $38 is worth the cost to be the BOSS.

I did like it had flats in order to hold everything still.

I ordered carbide bits from an online place. They were the only bit that would go through a melonited gas block and melonited barrel with ease and not a ton of pressure.

RPM and feed is everything. Carbide you need to spend 3x as fast as HSS. HSS can be sharper. Also use a spotting and then drill. Make sure your spotter and drill angles match up.

I ordered some tapping oil and the carbide bit off Amazon, so we'll see how it goes. I was going to do it today, but instead finished my MK 18 Mod 0 clone and then built another FDE lower for my 11.5" Big Gunner barrel.

Might try later tonight, but after dinner I have to run to Cary and kid the kid his Corvette bed!
