Random SHTF question

I am new here so I feel the need to point out an obvious shortcoming of you guys on CFF.
I don't recall being on another gun forum where a discussion such as this would not quickly deteriorate into name calling and plate throwing.

Seriously, the demeanor here is truly refreshing. Glad I found you guys.
I see no reason why we should not start the belittling with you! muahahahhaha

It's cause we're all older than dirt and too tired to fight.

Plus a lot of us live within rock throwing distance of each other. An armed society is a polite society. :D

@jmccracken1214, have you considered an AK pistol? Or an AK that comes with a pinned & welded faux suppressor, or one that's designed to be chopped and SBR'ed? PAP M85 & M92, PM90, RH10, Arsenal's UR & CR lines, etc...

Also, do you dislike .223/5.56 ammo or ARs that shoot it? Because there are AKs chambered in that caliber (like the M85 pistol above, along with the SLR-106 and the M90NP) - some that take pricey 5.56 AK mags, and others that use standard AR mags. In a SHTF event, the latter might make more sense as I imagine it would be easier to scavenge for .223 and prolific PMAGs.

I love the AR platform, just not a fan of 223.

Maybe my bolt guns have ruined me, maybe I should just get a progressive press and load good 223 ammo... But when I can load ammo for my bolt guns that shoots .25 moa for 55 cent a round or so, I can't bring myself to buy 223 brass for around 30 cents that shoots 1.5-2moa at it's best.

If I can't shoot accurately, I feel like I'm just wasting my time and money.

Buy Tula for blasting. It’s cheap and battle accurate. I can regularly ring 20”x20” steel at 400 with it and a red dot on my carbine. In a shtf situation a 1-2 moa gun will be just fine. I’d say a 14.5” mid length would be great.

Different tools for different jobs. What's a shotgun print at 100? :D

44040BE7-29EB-4139-AB78-0401DC727943.jpeg Cracken this pistol I picked up on the forum last week rang my small ipsc at 100 yards all day on Friday. And I didn’t even have to sight in the red dot I got from u it was on point. To each there own I have a lot of ar’s but this one might be the funniest to shoot.

When I had my AR's, I ran wolf steel, never had a problem but did not shoot them a lot either. I'm wondering if during a shtf , maybe not able to clean your rifle like it needs, how long would that steel cased ammo run reliable

I’ve got 725 rounds through my bcm mid length without cleaning. Ran fine Saturday at a match. Even let a guy use it and he ran brass with no problem. I have added a drop of oil to the bcg parts once since cleaning. Iirc Krabba had 14-1500 rounds of Tula through his bcm without cleaning. That was several years ago though and the old forum.

Impressive!
Would the bcm rifle have the same quality / tollerance as a PSA rifle

Short answer no. But it may surprise me. I’ve got a psa that runs steel great and it hasn’t been cleaned a bunch but I hardly shoot it anymore since I got the bcm.

Exactly. Both my competition rifle and SHTF rifle are 14.5 mids and I primarily shoot wolf/Tula through them no problem. I can hit a 6” plate at 200 w a red dot pretty easily too. That’s more than good enough for me.

Years ago I let my LMT 14.5 carbine go as long as possible before cleaning. It finally malfunctioned on me after just over 1100rd of various types of steel cases ammo. I make sure to clean my rifles every 1k now. :)

Confuzzled: spoiled by bolt gun accuracy.....so ARs are out.
So, looking at......wait for it....AKs!!!!!!

Edit: just giving you a hard time!
Lol, I feel like the AK will run longer on steel ammo, there for if I'm going to get something to shoot ehhh accuracy, might as well be the ak

Pushing 2500 on my homemade midlength without cleaning. Oiled the BCG once when it looked a little dry. Popping 12" steel at 300 easily. Running the cheapest factory brass I can find.

Watching this thread. I'm wanting to get a 10.5 pistol in 556 with a law folding stock and a nice dot and some back up irons for for SHTF/bugout. A nice discreet pack and a half dozen mags should be a great compliment to a healthy side arm load out.

I have an 11.5” pistol with a red dot and iron sights for this exact reason. Might go with a law folder on it eventually.

OP: both my BPM and my PSA AR pistol shoot almost exclusively Wolf/Tula and they routinely go 2k+ rounds with only a little oil on the bcg with zero issues. I think the BPM went almost 5k before I cleaned it (and that was just because I was bored, not because of issues)

Firearms are just like tools, you'll need one for every application. Don't settle on a do it all, because a jack of all trades is most likely a master of none....

Variety is what you should strive For!
