I don't see a topic on this. I know you can spend a mint on a great one, but what would be a very good one at a budget price for 1,000 yards?

Vortex. I've ordered the 1500 yd model (if it ever gets here!)

What's your budget?

I have the vortex ranger 1000. Works great and comes with a top notch warranty.

I've been looking for a nice range finder too. I have a small "cheap" Leupold model that works ok out to 600 yards or so. Fortunately, the place I mostly hunt and shoot is well ranged. All of my steel targets are on my GPS, as well as prominent trees, landmarks, and deer stands. Wherever I may be I just press GOTO a specific waypoint and I get a range. From checking my rangefinder the GPS is almost as accurate, usually within a yard. It really makes it handy for target shooting, since as an example, my target is a permanent location and I can set up anywhere from 0 to 700 yards from it real quick with my GPS.

My budget would be to spend as little as possible. ;)

$200 or less would be preferred, but $300 might be required based on some quick research.

I like the warranty on the Vortex, but even though I can get the 1500 for $350 it's still more than I would like to spend. The 1000 would set me back about $270. The Bushnell 7x26 Elite 1 Mile is also about $270.

Hoping for some options which are less expensive.

Pony up for the Sig Kilo.... it runs circles around the ortex and bushnell.... i am a huge vortex fan but their lrf is not as good as the Kilo....go to snipershide and read up on it.

Looks like the Sig would be at least $340 for the lowest price I could locate.

I guess there are no inexpensive options.
This is very much a case of you get what you pay for. Either you get a cheapo one that works ok some of the time or spend a bit more and get one that works well all of the time. I would recommend getting the new Sig Kilo 2200 instead of the 2000. They can be found for $420. I am currently saving my pennies for the Sig Kilo 2400AB as a one tool to do everything deal.

The 2200 is $351 so an $11 buck splurge. Still need to do some soul searching and penny saving. Nothing in the long range game is a minor expense.
