I'm new to AK's but this has been my experience:
I've been watching the PSA AK-V for a minute and always said that if it ever came in-stock I'd grab one right away. I received a notification that PSA had them in-stock 5/19 and purchased one right away. I've heard how they've been great and I've owned my AK-P for about 8 months now without issue plus PSA hasn't given me any issues. While I wait, I ordered an SLR handguard and an ALG trigger as it's what I've come to enjoy.
Fast forward, I have everything and I'm putting on the new handguard only to run into a hiccup of PSA changing the diameter of the piston rod so it's incompatible with my SLR gas tube unable to fully clear it. I communicate with SLR asking if this batch was defective or did PSA change up their specs? Apparently the (PSA AKV) batch I received and any newer batches have indeed been changed and required them to increase the diameter of their gas tube to allow operation. SLR has been great with communication of the issue and shipping out replacement gas tubes at no additional cost (Highly recommended). About two weeks later I receive my gas tube and think: "Sweet, I can finally go shoot it."
Today: I'm out zeroing my red dot (and just running it with the wife) and get a malfunction. Looked like a failure to feed but it was actually a failure to eject and the action just ate up the brass. "Whatever" I thought... these things have break-in periods. Another failure to eject but this time it's a stovepipe. At this point I'm highly suspicious. My range day included 5 magazines of 9mm Federal 115gr ball totaling 175 rounds total. I had 5 stoppages (4 being stovepipes) out of 4/5 magazines. I'm pretty upset at this point as now I'll likely have to ship the gun back for a new extractor or something but this is the first time I've ever had such a bad experience with a firearm. I'm confident PSA will fix the issue based on the feedback but I'm sort of skeptical of any future firearms I might buy from them.
I e-mailed them and I'll keep y'all posted.
