I have heard that the 6.5 is better when running at higher speeds. Factory loads are around 25 to 2650 ft/sec using a 140 pill. Loaded 40 Hornady match 140 grn @ 2700 ft/sec using RL-17 and 20 using the sane bullet but with H4359 to 2700 ft/sec. Trying to use up most of my powders that can be used with this caliber. Would like 90% of loads using H4350 and maybe 10% RL-16. Also, think that the 140 grn pill is the one of choice.

When I shot the 6.5 with RL-17 @ 2650 I was hitting good out to 400 yards but could not hear any hits with the match pills out to 500 by myself.

I think my preferred bullet is the Hornady 140 ELD then the Nosler 140 RDC for target shooting. I picked up some Nosler Ballistic tip just in case a animal or bad guy starts giving me a hard time and calling me some bad names. These too will be loaded out to 2700 ft/sec.

What do you think and load these pills with?

2700 fps is a sweet spot for those 140 ELDM’s.
Re-17 is capable of a lot higher speeds, but the accuracy was never there for me.
Whether or not you can hear hits depends on the target and the environment.
