I just got two new red dots and have used them for siting in my ar’s. Question I have is do most folks use a lower mount or a high mount. I got a low mount as an extra for my sights but installed them with the high mount. At the high mount you get a lower 1/3 cowitness. I’m guessing that a lower mount would give you a better cowitness. What say ye?

I use the mount that will absolute cowitness.

1/3 co-witness. You just need to be able to use your sights when the dot dies. How often is that going to happen?

A lot of low mounts are too low for proper ar use, and are better for AKs

I like lower 1/3 for general and have gotten into higher than that now with night vision. My go to rifle has lower 1/3 on top of a riser to put it ~2.3” and I have no issues in the day/general shooting either.

Low optics are from the time of fixed parallax hunting scopes and massive drops on stocks. Now we can be comfortable :)

I'm a fan of lower 1/3 cowitness over absolute cowitness simply because the higher dot is easier to get behind in most 'dynamic' shooting.

I've actually switched to 1.93 mounts on my red dot only rifles recently finding it even more comfortable than lower 1/3, but this doesn't allow for iron sight usage.

I've never had a quality red dot die, and I'm super confident in even holosuns here lately. Why not maximize performance of the primary optic?

Hell, my primary rifle has a rmr on top of an acog, which is also on a kram riser... I find it super comfortable, you just need to get out there and learn your height over bore holdovers.

Lower 1/3

At absolute, my thumb is visible when working the light. I need to replace the QRP2 mount on my Pro but just haven't gotten around to it.
